Elaine, I just have little faith in investing in modern numismatic coins, especially platinum. FS gold seems too long term and too little evidence that a specialty market will develop for FS gold later on. If you must buy mintmark gold, then stick with the AGB and AGE. AGB seems to have growing bullion investor interest (UNCs) and the prices of collector 2006w-2008w coins seems to have created a buzz of new collectors for AGB future issues. AGE maintains collector familiarity and perhaps the safest investment buy of numismatic coins.

It's never too late to learn about classic US gold. I suggest certified for those who don't know a lot about them as there are a lot of fakes out there. You could always remove the coin from the holder if you so choose to. But I would not recommend doing that.

But the pakistani taliban are saying they are responsible for this....isn't that international enough with a well known group name?

Wouldn't they do anything for a little media exposure? even if it wasn't them.

Possibly, I really don't know how "honorable" these groups are and if they take claim for things that aren't theirs....

So far prices are dipping....let's hope that run isn't over just yet....

Could be a good point!! Gold is on it's way up, no doubt about it!! I don't know about the NYC scare. We'll have to see but for long term, I'll be buying more gold just as soon as I am able which should be within a couple month's time.

That is indeed an interesting read. Does this mean that silver would double too just to keep the ratio somewhat close? Right now it hovers around 62:1 so if gold doubled and silver didn't, that we would be looking at 120:1 no?

Other than that, the whole ratio thing could be absolute hogwash anyways and the silver bugs would need to stop using it as a selling point!!!

Currently: In Asian markets for Monday 5/3/10...

    GOLD @ $1,178.10/oz.

    Silver @ $18.58/oz.
    Platinum @ $1,733/oz.
    Palladium @ $550/oz.

Things seemed to take a little slow down before the other markets come on for Monday morning in western countries...

I agree. The case for the ratio is very weak.

The ratio argument does seem weak to me too. Couldn't someone make a ratio of any PM to anything else just to try to prove a point? That doesn't seem sound basis for a convincing argument to rely on. I've come to weigh the ratio talk with a grain of salt when it enters the conversation. Stripping away these notions makes it easier for me not to get worked up about implied meanings and various concerns for performance.
