    Ah, a fellow techno-utopian. :)

    Sure, there are other ways to produce gold -- but they're all more energy-intensive than our current methods, and therefore they won't be cheaper unless energy itself becomes vastly cheaper. And if that happens, "It's Different This Time" finally does come true, and all bets are off. In that scenario, I'd be happy to write off all the capital I've tied up in PMs, because there would be so much bounty elsewhere.

    If you can drop it fast enough. It will be possible eventually to artificially create gold without spending too much money. Whether that happens in 20 year, 50 years, 100 years, or 1,000 years, I don't know. But even without that, there is a lot coming from the seas and skies.
