Ok inforcers on coinage. I've had this quarter since 2001. I have wondered about it since then. The reeds are partially there. Liberty looks like it's got doubling. I have read and watched videos on how coins are made. I think I'm just slow at grasping what is what. Ok experts give me what you think/got.
Not a doubled die. BUT it is a partial collar strike aka railroad rim. Here is an example that looks similar to yours: https://www.coincommunity.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=321129
I agree with Partial Collar Strike. LIBERTY looks like Die Deterioration Doubling. Not a Doubled Die Variety. 1 out of 2.. Take the Partial Collar! Way more interesting!
Here's an old Coin Talk photo of a railroad rim: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/is-this-a-railroad-rim.127503/ Scroll down and click on @Hobo's 1299a. jpeg photo Further down you'll see more photos.
