My bank is FDIC insured up to $250,000 so that not only covers my checking and savings accounts but my safe deposit box as week so I am still good
Who do you bank with I was under the impression that a safety deposit box isn't covered. IF I'm wrong? I'd like to know what bank covers safety deposit boxes. They aren't supposed to know what you have in there.
Banks do not cover safe deposit box contents because they do not know what the contents are, usually. Who would tell their bank what they have in a safe deposit box. I have Hugh Wood and have safe deposit box insurance and am covered for an amount that covers the transfered from the bank to my house and versa visa. Not selling insurance but their prices are very reasonable.
There is no perfect solution. Safe deposit boxes can have access denied/removed (bank holidays) or be outright confiscated (FBI - civil asset forfeiture) even when you did nothing wrong at all. https://ij.org/case/us-private-vaults-missing-property/ https://www.latimes.com/california/...backs-fbi-beverly-hills-safe-deposit-box-raid
These were private vaults. I don't think a judge would issue a warrant for all the boxes at a bank. With good cause, I could see a warrant being issued by name of the owner of a box.
I believe the ruling on the private vaults will be reversed over time. Too many honest people were harmed
That's not really the message Huey Long was trying to get across Is it a good plan if you have 10 banks?
But how good was the government agencys record keeping during the confiscation? I guess we might find out IF some items are returned... I haven't heard of anything being returned yet.
It depends on the insurer. I'm sure if I claimed more they'd want proof of ownership. I have the Chubb Masterpiece policy and they don't even need an inventory of what I have (still can't understand why). But I believe I am covered up to $50 or $100K. Will re-check the policy and my emails to-and-from the insurance guy.
