I recently pledged to do my own giveaway* if by some chance I happened to win in @Ajax 's ancient coin drawing. Well, Lo and behold, I did, and won the coin I liked, too! So, as promised, here is a giveaway of my own to pass on the good mojo. Up for grabs is one five-piece lot of silver coins. This consists of: (1 piece) 1958 USA Franklin half, Proof (4 pieces) Mexico peso coins (1960, 1960, 1961, 1963) (Please forgive the marginally-lit, quickie group shot taken with my ancient iPhone 3.) The Franklin half is not a Cameo or anything, but is a nice brilliant proof. There's no haze or hairlines on it. It looks about 300% better than the picture above. The plastic flip in the picture looks pretty scuffy, but the coin itself is pretty pristine and quite nice. The Mexican pesos are all of the KM 459 type and bear the portrait of José Morelos Each has .0514 oz. of silver, so there's .2057 oz. total bullion in the four pieces. That .100-fine standard is kind of odd- one wonders why the Mexican mint even bothered putting such a tiny bit of silver in the coins. But even though there's only 10% silver in there, it does give 'em the color and appearance of "good" silver coins, so maybe that's why they did that. Technically I suppose the alloy is more billon than silver. Though nearly silver dollar sized, each piece has just a tad less bullion than a US "War" nickel. (Also note the hilarious typos on the Krause page I linked to above- they list these for $20.00 each in VF and XF, but only $2.00 in UNC!) So anyway, these are not particularly valuable coins, but they're fun, and they do look better than the photo. They have cool-looking lettered edges, too. Just post once to this thread to enter the giveaway. A winner will be randomly selected on or shortly after April 1st. Winner will receive all five coins shown above.
Hope those Mexicans are XF and not UNC. (This is not an entry into the competition. Just a comment. None of the coins hold much interest for me.)
I'm in. Once Thank you for jumpin' in. I really like these. I haven't won but I have gotten off my duff and done a little research on the coins so it has been educational. Good luck to everyone.
I don't collect any of these, but they all look very nice to my untrained eye. Really though, don't put me in because I would not have the appreciation these coins require. And good on ya. Pay it forward seems to be a quality among the posters here.
