Friday, January 6th, 2023. Predawn in my cheapo hotel room. Removed the old hat from its box. Today will be the first time it’s been worn to a coin show in 15 years. When last worn, it had nothing but gold holey coins on it, but I sold those during leaner times in the Recession. So it’s got somewhat humbler ornamentation now. (But still some pretty fun & cool historical holeys). @Paddy54 will note the clipped-planchet 1898 “Remember the Maine” token in front.
Ahh yes.... I do love the classics. Enjoy your time there, and if you happen by a table from Gilbert Coins or PQ Dollars (same guy) tell Steve & Lisa that Randy says hey.... He'll know what you mean...
I do recall the 1898 token as it was featured in a article in Error Scope that I wrote. I also see a small coin to the NW of the Maine token that looks very familiar...lol. I am honored to be have two specimens on your hat. Enjoy the show..... BTW my bday is coming.... I like Owls....
That’s an 1800 British Maundy penny. Came from you? I have no recollection. I do recall winning an 1800 Maundy penny in a giveaway from NEN years ago, but that one was a slabbed MS piece, not a holey.
Correct I found it on the web thought you like it for the hat......its so small it mailed in a 3x5 regular envelop, and stamp. It came from Portugal dealer.
@Paddy54 - thanks for the memory refresher. (And the coins.) There’s not only well fed parking lot kitties at my hotel, but rooftop kitties as well! This one has a lopped ear tip, meaning that somebody keeps their colony spayed/neutered. Good for them.
Hey, @lordmarcovan! Could you do me a favor? When you walk through the entrance to the show, could you please check the "free literature" tables to see if a flyer for my Korean Coin book is there? If you have the time... Cheers. Wishing you lots of luck at the show!
I do not see a flyer for your book on these two tables out front, but I could have overlooked them. Edit: here’s some info on @mlov43 ‘s newly-published book, if y’all are interested. This is the digital flyer for it, so to speak: http://dokdo-research.com/SouthKoreanCoinBook.html
Rob we have ,bought sold, horse traded ,swapped... given so many times over the years. Examples of your kindness and generosity will always be a part of the Paddy Hoard ... .. with many thanks my friend.
