Yet another reason I've long liked them.

Think I'll stick with little round pieces of metal, but if I ever stray into little rectangular pieces of paper, those will be very high on my list.

This is a free extra entry for new member @Parthicus Maximus. If the random number generator lands on #42 (this is Post #42), then @Parthicus Maximus will win a prize, just as he will if it lands on his regular entry post, should he choose to post one.

This is a free extra entry for @coin_nut, since he's been particularly kind and generous to me lately. If the random number generator lands on #43 (this is Post #43), then @coin_nut will win a prize, just as he will if it lands on Post #24 (the entry post he already made).

Coins can be for a lot more than spending and collecting. The right one can be a souvenir of a favorite vacation spot. This is a lot neater than one of those overpriced coffee mugs.

Today in (coin related) history ----

Abraham Lincoln was shot, and he died the next day. Had he not been assassinated during his term, and survived his presidency, it is very possible there would be no Lincoln Cent. His death, as do the deaths of some other famous people, changed the perception of him and coming as it did right before the end of the war and him having 'saved' the union, his memory became revered.

In 1909, for the 100th year of his birth, his image became the first American President to be put on the face of a US coin.

I don't think that anyone in 1909 would imagine that this would be continuing 110+ years later.

I needed a place where I leave my coins, books, loupes, etc out. Now that we have a spare bedroom,
I will convert it to a Study. So first on the ToDo list was to build from scratch was a mid-size hobby desk. I built it from solid Red Oak. Used the Mortise & Tenon method for the legs. I added faux Tenon Butts and embellished each with a 1926 Buffalo nickel. The ‘26 nickel symbolically represents 2026 - my target date year for the Big R.

I totally agree. We vacation in the NC mountains every fall, so I'm totally on board with the Smoky Mountains thing. I got my first Blue Ridge Parkway quarter in change not long before we drove up the Blue Ridge Parkway from Asheville. And I have added a Cumberland Island quarter to my collection because that's sort of "local" to me. On a clear day, I can see Cumberland Island on the horizon from one of the high bridges along my daily commute. (Besides, the coin was essentially free, as I had some leftover Amazon giftcard balance to burn. It is my only coin purchase off Amazon.)

I have a 1965 (my birthyear) and a 1976 (the year I began collecting coins). Those old prices sure can be interesting, can't they? Makes one wish for a time machine.

Lovely type, isn't it. There was one in last month's giveaway, donated by @Nas.

Fantastic! Nicely done. I'm envious of your Study-to-be. We acquired a third bedroom in the new home we got last August. Ladymarcovan has appropriated it as her "Crafts Room". I'm still without any office space of my own. :(
