    Entry Post. Super prizes! Thanks. My order: 3 4 6 1 2 5

I find this note interesting. The portrait is of Spencer M. Clark, Superintendent of the National Currency Bureau (ancestor of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing) who put his own picture on this bill while he was Superintendent! When Congress realized what he had done they passed two laws. One outlawed any living person on US currency without Congressional approval. The other law outlawed the issuance of paper money less than 10 cents. So instead of paper, the US issued a copper-nickel 5 cent coin, still issued today with the same composition, the only circulation coin still issued in the 21st Century with the same composition it had in the 19th. Great! Thanks for the offer. Why don't we do that for the May giveaway, since we're already rolling on this one? Just shoot me a private message if you still want to do that (and remind me towards the end of this giveaway, so I'll remember you offered). Thanks again!

    Lucky duck!

I've never collected paper currency, but I've always said that if I did, it would be US Fractional Currency and German notgeld. Love those little small notes! That's a neat looking one, too.

I collect because I love history, and there is a lot of it in US Fractional Currency. Plus, it is affordable. Unless you are into specimen notes, super high condition, or varieties, they are mostly very affordable for someone on a limited budget. I have acquired a complete collection of major designs of all circulation issues most in nice condition (a few uncirculated). Mostly I have paid $15-30 each (one was $1.50, 10 cent Meredith in XF+, but that was a LONG time ago!). My most expensive Fractional cost $70. There is no way I could have collected a similar set of older US currency for that price.
