Ditto to THAT. I lived in NC for several years, and loved the coin shows, and surprising rich array of Ancients Sellers there. I move up to a major metro in the Midwest, and it is an Ancients dessert!

I'm sure we know some of the same people. The first shows I did were NCNA shows in Raleigh around the millennium. I lived much of my former pre-millennial existence in Asheville, where my my mother's people were from. Still have an aunt left there. (And an ex-wife. My son moved to Chicago.)

I still get up there once a year to visit. My good friend Michael Swoveland (@Aethelred) just informed me today that he will very soon be opening his own brick-and-mortar coin shop in the Asheville area, which is probably why he has been so scarce on the Ancients forum lately.

(Note his username. Now note the OP of this thread, and the presence in MY collection of HIS onetime namesake, "signature" coin. Took me 19 years to wrest that one from his grasp, and I gave up several nice ancients to get it!)

If anyone is going to be in the Asheville area Oct 14-15, be sure to check out the Buncombe County Coin Club show at the Western North Carolina Ag Center.

Thank you. It is good to be "Eclectic", and sample lots of different things. Until last year I even had one modern coin in the box. I might add one or two again. The next update will include a coin from 1929, which is pretty modern by the standards of this collection.

Is that Lundy Puffin the coin that you won in a contest?

Yes! From @H8_modern! Weren't you a winner in that same contest?

I liked it so much that I sent it off for grading. And it's going into the Eclectic Box, simply because it's a cool coin- I like the puffin on it, and Lundy has an interesting history. And for those reasons, I had always sort of wanted one, which is why I was really stoked when I saw that in my giveaway goodies from h8_modern. Now I have one, and it is tied with four others for the finest graded (at least at PCGS- I haven't looked at the NGC pops).

So once again, hooray for h8_modern. You see, what comes around goes around. I may have given away a lot of stuff since I came here, but I've also been on the receiving end of some nice stuff, too!
