This one is my favorite because I won it in a CoinTalk competition a few years ago! Sent it to NGC to get graded... MS69
Probably a combination of two factors: -- it's a key coin and they are often given a little extra nudge in grading -- I took those images years ago; my technique and equipment have improved considerably since then.
A new favorite, at least for a while: United States dollar 1849 My first gold dollar, Philadelphia mint, open wreath variety.
I find the coin in my avatar very attractive: Coin Salut D'Or Mint St. Lô Reference Duplessy 443A; Friedberg 301 Metal Gold Weight 3.48 g Diameter 26 mm Condition EF Obverse Angel Gabriel in profile right behind quartered Arms of France and England, facing nimbate Virgin Mary behind Arms of France, between them AVE on scroll reading downwards surmounted by five-rayed sun. I just realized something. I don't really have a favorite gold coin, presently. I like all the ones I own for different reasons. The two in my sigline picture are fairly recent purchases. Well, at risk of posting stuff everyone has seen, I can just post all of my gold and electrum, since mine is such a small collection. I guess you could say my favorite gold coins are the ones I own. Ancient Greece (Ionia, Phokaia): electrum hekte, Athena and quadripartite punch, ca. 478-387 BC Ancient Byzantine Empire: gold tremissis of Justinian I, ca. 527-565 AD Netherlands (Gelderland): "St. John" type goldgulden (florin) of Arnold van Egmond, ca. 1423-1472 Belgium (Brabant): gold florin (Carolus d’or) of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, ca. 1521-1545 Spain: gold half-escudo of Ferdinand VI, 1759, Madrid mint United States: gold 5-dollar half-eagle, Liberty Head type, 1842-D (small date) Japan (Meiji Era): gold/electrum Nibu-Kin (2 bu), ca. 1868-1869 Great Britain: gold half-sovereign of Queen Victoria, 1901, from the Terner Collection
Here's my two newest that I just bought this past week, been wanting the classic head half eagle for awhile but Saint was an impulse buy as I really liked the orange color.
