    All processes used to create a solid raw material to a specific recipe leave opportunities for what is called segregation. This is an area in the product that doesn't get a proper mix of ingredients. And, that area could also have introduced contaminants that could give the same result. It doesn't make any difference if it is rubber, plastic, steel or copper. All materials are subject to the possibility segregation or contamination. This coin held up for many years before failure. If it were properly blended and treated, an impact such as this would not cause the failure we see. It would just bend at impact. IMHO
