Once again, my collection is woefully lacking, but how about a page full of Gorgons, a naughty satyr, and a couple of songs from my favorite satanic metal band?

No satan is borrowed from Arabic word "shaytan" which is written as شیطان in holy Quran. It is mentioned in Quran for first time and it is 100% Islamic word. Quran mentions that satan was created from fire as opposed to man created from soil also mentions that the type of creature family that satan belongs to are called Jinn (الجن) which are some creatures created from fire and some sort of invisible energy however they can come in human or animal forms. Many villagers have seen these jinn in old bath houses they dance and sometimes they are seen in jungles and they have some sort of human body but they can be detected by their feet which looks like horse hoof
You do know that Quran was written several hundred years after the Hebrew Bible, right? Not to mention that Arabic and Hebrew are both Semitic languages and are related so both may have had this word.
Actually the Hebrew Bible was written more than 1,000 years before the Koran. Someone's visions must have forgotten to mention that.
The question I answered was simply about the etymology of the English word Satan. It was derived from the Hebrew word. The question had nothing to do with theology or Jinns.
Let's steer clear of contentious religious topics here, please, folks. I have not had time to read the discussion and see what has to be edited in response to recent flagged posts (and frankly I don't relish the task), so for now, let this notice suffice. The rules state that there is to be no discussion of religion or politics on CoinTalk. Now yes, I do realize that a certain amount of historical discussion of philosophy and religion is inevitable with ancient coins. That goes with the territory. However, please use your best judgment in not letting the discussion run astray into things that will offend other people's sensibilities. In fact, that's all. I'm not even going to try to selectively edit the reported posts. One of the other mods or admins might, but if I see any more flags on this thread, I'll just sweep the whole thing away, OK? So y'all (ALL of you) be cool unless you want this entire thread to disappear and/or infractions to be issued. *Edit: there, Doug fixed it. Be good, and not evil, or Doug will get you! (Speaking of things that go "bump" in the night...)
Thanks! I was so geeked when it showed up. In hand that patina is dark as the depths of hades! And thanks for showing some much more detailed examples. Both AMAZINGly wicked Pitane coins ... and that Pat Boone (don't worry @ominus1 , it was Boone doing a cover of Dio in 1997) was truly evil. Though, nice save with the Danzig But what's so evil about these three nekkid ladies??? And just to set the record straight on the REAL holy diver(I saw Dio back in the 90s)
A couple wonderful wicked little guys. Thanks for sharing! Huh, never heard of Wacken but now I've gotta go one of these years once normalcy is restored. Especially when their official symbol looks like this! Now, where have I seen that before??
Aha! I know where I've seen that flaming stierkopf before! And speaking of stierköpfen, but whimsical ones, not evil... German States (Mecklenburg-Wismar): silver witten, struck after the Wendish Coinage Union of 1379 Obverse: Crowned bull's head facing, with protruding tongue. Reverse: Lily cross or cross fleurée, star in center.
WONDERFUL RUSH call out! My wife and I saw them on their last tour. And I must say, there is a distinct difference in hearing Neil Peart (rest in peace) on an album and knowing he's the greatest drummer ever than seeing him perform several of the greatest drum solos you've ever seen recorded or not in front of you. (I was gonna go with the holy trinity gag, but "Greek Gods" is pretty perfect for this forum) Perfect segway to my hyper evil, pentagram (certainly for Rush. Even back then they had sages who foresaw 3 canadians getting together to write some of the best rock of all time)over a beastly creature. "But Ryro, that ain't that scary." Some novice might say. I wonder what type of plant the branch was supposed to be from And as powerfully as the portrait with its crazy hair, horn and beard, on that electrotype draws me in, it's those crazy silphiums (speaking of ancient plants) that keep drawing the eye back!

Well, in any good horror movie, when three naked witchy women suddenly want to spend some time with you, you know you'll probably have an axe in the head coming up in the next scene. That must've been an amazing show! Here's a Sabbath with Dio tune and matching coin. Dehumanizer was one of my favorite albums at the time... RIP RJD. ROMAN REPUBLIC. L. Titurius Sabinus. I was thinking of spreading out the evil over the next couple of days, but I guess I can still come up with something else tomorrow. Here's the lesson then, people, don't ever let Freddy play with your coins! PAMPHYLIA, Aspendos AR Stater. 10.63g, 19.7mm. PAMPHYLIA, Aspendos, circa 465-430 BC. SNG BN –; SNG von Aulock 4484 var. Sadly, it looks like he must've fallen asleep and gotten the old Nightmare on Elm street treatment: Pretty wicked looking with the broken fingers and scarred face!
I have no evil coins to add, but somehow this international society seemed an appropriate add to this thread, the pamphlet recently found between the pages of a Greek coin reference book...
I don’t wish to pry but how did you get my mother in law’s picture? I admit it’s the best picture I have ever seen of her. She had her horns sharpened and done her makeup. Meanest woman I ever met and hated me until her dying breath. I bribed the mortician to drive a stake through her heart. Just to be sure.
