How to select or buy a 1/2 ounce gold coin?.

The latest sales for the buffalo have been posted and as i said above the numbers are that low. The proof buffalo 1/4 is at 13,211.

The buffalo 1/4 UNC for comparison is at 10,686 so just over 10K.

Both are not available so likely these numbers will be close to final.

PS Elaine don't forget the 1/2 ounce UNC buffalo will be a higher mintage as they are selling the 8 8 8 prosperity sets so they will not be a low mintage compared to the others.

The proof 1/2 should do well at it was probably made in about the same amount as the 1/4 or 13,000 coins.

The 1/2 UNC though must be at least 10,000 higher although I have not seen any numbers on prosperity set sales. I assume though they will do at least 10,000 so add that and you get 20,000 for the UNC half or more.

So I think the 1/2 UNC will end up being the high mintage coin of both sets.

Seriously, if you want low priced very near 1/2 oz bullion, go with the 1984 $10 Olympic commemorative. They were minted in large numbers, well larger than the market cares for - and they sell at a fraction above melt. Right now they and the 1987 $5 Constitution are the only coins in gold that are not carrying ridiculous markups. They are not pretty, but they get the job done.

i liked them too. i got five constitutional proof $5.00 at $85.00 each. that was long time ago.

 

finally i bought some 1/2 oz of american buffalo and eagle in proof condition. it is hard to just select one. because both were so great. i also plan to buy some uncirculated later on.

 

only three items left for american buffalos (w) mint mark gold coins:

these are 1/2 ounce proof, 1 ounce unc and 1/2 ounce unc.

you can still buy the prosperity 2 pc 1/2 ounce set. which composed of 1/2 ounce unc (w) buffalo and 1/2 ounce unc (w) american eagle.

 

i think the buffalo gold proof and unc are the winner.

spouse 1/2 ounce from the 5th to 8th are quite attractive. an investment potential.

 

now the 1/2 oz gold left for sales at the mint reduces to nine.

2008w am eagle 1/2 oz unc gold plus 8 spouses 1/2 oz proof and unc gold.

 

i will buy spouse 1/2 oz gold. try to see if the mintage goes around 1,000 to 1,500 range.

 

I happen to like the design of the $5 Constitution and the $10 Olympic commems, but I think I'm the only one. In fact, all of the gold commems from the 1980s seem to be underappreciated.

 

i was lucky enough to buy 5 pc of proof 1987 constitution at $85.00 each during 1990's. now it worth over $250.00 plus.

 

by friday. it is the time to buy some spouses half ounce gold coin. the price will be lowering at $604.00 (proof) and $591.00 (unc).
