How to figure out the total price for 2012 annual 6 coin set?.

I think you're wrong about the burnished quality of the presidential and Sacagawea dollars. The mint doesn't use the satin finish on these issues any longer. The mint description is for uncirculated coins, not satin or burnished. Also, why do you think this set should be priced so high? They are all common coins with high mintages.

are the dollar coins in the 2012 set burnished?

I thought that they were regular circulation strike coins and that they stopped burnishing them years ago.

thanks green18. so the set went up maybe because most of 2012 issue were up. or maybe the set mintage is only 28,368. i think the set is capable of moving further up.

 

True on the set numbers but each one of the coins within that set is a high mintage coin. That's a lot of money for some very common coins in fancy packaging. I was toying with the idea of purchasing a set from the mint last year but the $55 price tag I felt was too high. This years set is $10 cheaper but I don't plan on picking one up as I already have all of the individual components of the set. Like I stated earlier in this thread, I have the '07 and '08 sets but I was of a different mindset back in those days......I bought all of the pretty packaged stuff. Since then I've become a little more selective in my buying and shy away from redundancy.

 

You can buy the set for USD$80 on ebay; thus it is the market value.

It is quite erratic on the ebay. They range from the mid 70's to 132.50.

 

That's quite a premium for packaging, since all of these coins were sold in other sets or individually. Just to clarify, all coins in this set are uncs, not proofs, even though these burnished uncs are close to matte proofs.

 

That's right, the small dollars aren't burnished/satin since 2011.

The American Legacy sets (2005-2008) were released from the mint at $135 a pop. Most can be picked up today for well under $100. Most folks just don't need all the fancy packaging and are unwilling to pay a premium for it......
