I’m just wondering how much gold is required to make a simple gold band for a ring. I know everyone has different sized fingers but an estimate would be appreciated.

Something like this except made of 24K gold.

Thanks! Oh wow that means a 1 oz American Gold Eagle could be melted down and turned into 3 rings!

I like my rings light, so my preference is around 5 grams!

Does your ring look like a simple band though?

I’ve always loved that design ever since I read Lord of the Rings. The One Ring looks beautiful and simple.

I don't wear jewelry, other than a sterling chain that weighs 10g, and I have a couple of plain sterling rings and a gold ring that I wear less often, all weighing around 4-5 grams and nothing fancy.

24K with no alloy? Wear gloves over it!

24k is too soft for a ring to hold its shape.
18k, 14k, 10k is what most people buy.

You can Google what you want in a ring and what gold karat to get a better price.
Keep in mind that the production of the ring will add to the cost even if you swap gold for gold.

My wedding ring is 18k gold and a half ounce.
    Hardly gets worn.

My college ring is 10K Gold and has become to heavy and uncomfortable for me to wear.

I think you'd be hard pressed to make you a gold ring out of 24k, the highest I've ever come across or owned is 22k. I'm thinking 24k is too soft or would easily get scratched but hopefully a jeweler chimes in here as I'm certainly not an expert.

No need for a jeweler :D many on this board are wise beyond their years, have lighter colored hair or less of it.
Some we consider experts in the field:p

Where was I going with this again...
India is well known for 22k jewlery, it's a way for people to transport wealth.
24k is soft, will get bent out of shape if to thinly made.

Yes, I used to own a 22k ring from India years ago, wish I still had it but I sold for a profit. :D

my great grerat grandfather had a wedding band made of 24 karat gold, it would bend in your hand easily...scrapped long ago when gold went so high everyone knew it would never get higher ever again so sold it at 780.00 per ounce when gold was like 824.00 an ounce...silver was 42.00 but dealers only were paying 37.00
