I think I've connected the dots now. We're all under martial law in this thread.

By the way, I'm still waiting for many of you to take advantage of my very generous offer if you're scared your investment will tank really, really bad...

But I clearly tied it to the discussion :) that's the difference - BTW we tell each other we love each other every day and mean it. Growth in any relationship requires honesty, healthy communication both ways, respect, good listening skills, and the ability to admit when you are wrong. The same can be said about this thread and forums in general.

I'd continue with this thread drift, but I have had it with women and marriage, and don't want to do either in the near future. So by all means, carry on...in the General Discussions section.

Yes, par for the course, it is about the time when you go stick your head in the sand, again. :thumb:

I'm aware of it. I'm talking in a broader sense about those who play cheerleaders for new products, about bestowing the merits of what it will be worth in advance of going on sale, how many they (will be/are) buying when it does go on sale, what mintage means and how and when profit can (even telling us flat out that it "wiil" rise as fretboard declared the A75 sets would), and what others should be doing to to make that profit, even when they aren't doing the same themselves. There is the pre-sale hype from these folks, the point of time just after orders are place and products are not yet in-hand and then the in-hand phase, all of which forums experience a flurry of commentary that drives up interest and rapidly peaks the after market profitability. In all those phases, attention is drawn to perceived easy returns, more people place orders hoping to flip and the aftermarket ends up with fewer flipping opportunities, where by interest in the product falls off with slumping profitability. In light of some past Mint products and collectors even admitting slim margins of profit, the comment early that the one's profiting off this behavior are the Mint, USPS, eBay and PayPal, as well TPGs we might add.

I know it's easier to say I'm wrong and resist the critical perspective I offer. That's fine, you all can stick to your ways, but you are not being honest with yourselves if you doubt you are having an effect on the success of your own profitability when it comes to flipping these products and not letting the Mint see that they can keep charging more for what you 'collect.'

While I may use members like fretboard in my examples, this applies to a vast majority of people buying these products or who have commented on these same things. Members like fretboard are repeat offenders of this behavior that are easy to point to and offer plenty to work with when explaining what it is this criticism seeks to expose. When they take it personal after posting something on a public forum where anyone can reply with any manner of views within reason of forum rules, these threads stray and instantly attract hecklers and snide commentary from the fray not really interested in looking deeper at this matter.

The time frame of my posts are broader, have expanded the limited nature of this thread and by pointing to past examples, time has been used to illustrate repetitive behaviors. There is nothing moot in the least about calling out the ongoing timeframe that finds such words and actions recycled and played out with every new product release.

It appears that summary is always just somewhere over the heads of many, particularly those who resist such views and input on the subject when it is described, often at length, whose length probably threatens them when they stress about having too read too much and worry about discussing the details, feeling they've been personally attacked (when they haven't, instead just used to illustrate a point) and unable to consider thoughts and concepts that are not in alignment with their own way of expressing enthusiasm at the ease of a few keystrokes and clicks to the world about the next new thing. Yes, your summary is on course with what I've stated.

I've looked through 7 pages of this topic. I see plenty of discussion about each other's character flaws, marriage advice & failure, boasts about personal debt (as if this is a good thing) and most anything else except anything having to do with the 2012 Silver Eagle Set. One brave person did say he/she liked the reverse proof coins.

One could take this as a bad sign in regards to the interest in the future value of this coin set. My theory is that as the Mint releases more reverse proof coins, then the interest in any individual set falls because the novelty premium disappears. I did a quick check on Amazon and the current "retail" price for the 20th & 25th anniversary sets, w/original packaging, is $425 & $745 respectively. i.e. trending downwards.

Sounds about like how I imagine the Mint deals with their suppliers (something that is kept off the record as well as what they paid for the materials), only to allow the Mint to turn around and gouge the consumers, I mean, collectors on these so-called limited products.

Only problem with your post, is that I am not frustrated. I am a collector, not a flipper and have stated I am buying two of this product. I don't cheer for prices to increase on the aftermarket, though there's nothing wrong with it when it's organic demand amongst the hobbyist, rather than panic buying when some see inflated prices and think supply is running out. As often as I see people parade around these threads boasting about the things you mentioned, I will counter it with my own thoughts, not frustrations, on the subject. If anything inspires frustration it's others resistance to dissent, and that precisely when you do not allow yourself to be overcome with frustrations. I offer my insights and take jabs for it, so what. I can deal with people disagreeing with me.

I am discussing this openly, no trickery whatsoever. If you can't take the time to read lengthy posts that your problem and such superficial effort only demonstrates who you arrive at such assumptions as you have in this post. The insults are what others make of them, mostly after being challenged on some half thought statement they posted but also how they initially respond to criticism. Most people can't deal with criticism and try to make it look like an affront to their character to sidetrack the topic entirely, which is why these threads get drawn out in all sorts of ways and drift far from the topic(s) up for consideration.

I am a collector also and gather only coins I like. Making money on them means very little to me. I'd rather be standing on Glacier Point overlooking the Yosemite Valley than thinking about coin profitability.

However, the hype, profitability potential, predictions etc. are important to a lot of people. The recurrent cycles you cite do occur. The fact it bothers you does not mean others should not be able to enjoy it.

The situation is most likely not going to change regardless of how many posts you create. As the French say, "it's like peeing into a violin."

I think the reality of the situation is this: different people enjoy different things; it is their right to do so; goodness knows, we have lost quite a number of our liberties over the past 10+ years; if you find you don't like something (especially something like this that is so, so unimportant compared to real issues in the world), you have the right to move on.

This is hardly about something as grandiose as limiting other people's liberties! Good grief! That and the crudity of your French saying (as translated to the English makes it sound) is certainly taking a discussion on such a trivial matter to an extreme.

I urge quiet not to stifle others but to suggest what they like, the profitability and low mintage, would work more in their favor were they not racing to post so openly and boastfully about profits to be had. They are acting as haphazardly as miners discovering gold only to be overrun by hordes of others seeking the same.

This is far from the first time I've addressed this and members like fretboard about this. I didn't think this would be so controversial for so many of you, but I should have expected it being a forum, that people would take critical discussion personally and get offended and try to vote any naysayer or boat rocker off the island.

Telling me I have the right to move comes off quite ironically after extolled that post of your admonishing me.

Again, this is not about me not liking something or someone personally, it's about pointing out the folly these folks make by advertising their enthusiasm for price increases and how easy they suggest it is to profit from it which only conspires against what it is they lust for in these products. I've cautioned them here and in other threads, and your right, it doesn't sink in because they keep up the same act expecting the same outcome every time, but it doesn't work that way every time, and each time they contribute to the eventuality where there is very little to nothing left to derive from it.

I don't think it was someone enjoying or speculating that they might make a profit on a turn over that was anoying anyone. It was the arrogant, hahahaha, i got them and your locked out, and aren't you jealous, that got peoples goat. It's like talking to Yankee fans.

Here is the news. I don't want them. I don't particularly like them. While the conversation could have been interesting, I don't think even from a speculation perspective that they are particularly a good gamble as compared to other coin releases within the last 6 months. Furthermore, in general, I don't like being trolled, and I'm not competitive by nature. If you want to interpret that as "sour grapes" then I really pity you.

Since the sets are no longer available from the Mint, is it ok to talk about how much we are going to make flipping them now? :smile

I don't plan to sell my set but I do plan on updating the price in my dataset. It should be as interesting as the 2011 ASE ride.
