I kind of feel like we're at the beating a dead horse point here, but thought I'd offer another point of view anyway. To me, it feels like if someone opens up their house to throw a block party and invites all the neighbors over, whatever their background and political and religious beliefs. One guy keeps trying to steer the conversations into politics, and the host trying to be gracious, tries to steer the conversation to anything except politics. Instead of taking the subtle hint, the guest stands up and starts shouting at the host what a terrible party they have, and starts offering advice on how they should improve themselves, how they should fix up their house because it's not good enough for a block party, etc, etc. Thing is, this site is a coin forum, the bullion forum is here because a lot of coin collectors are interested in the topic too. We used to get lots of bullion investing topics in the coin chat area, and I made the decision to give this topic its own section. We also had a politics section and that caused significant strife in the community. Instead of stifling politics totally, I moved it to a separate site where a small group of fellow collectors enjoy griefing at one another about politics. And, it isn't that we totally restrict anything that veers into political, there's a real fuzzy line there and impossible to please everyone all the time. The bottom line is, though, that most of the people who enjoy their time on CoinTalk come because of their shared love of coins, and if we loosened up and allowed political discussions to run wild we'd have a lot more people unhappy with the forum here than we do now.
