Why? you can ask for whatever you want when you create an auction. Doesn't mean an astute buyer will pay for it. What's more meaningful is completed auction and items that complete AFTER the mint ships.

You see the same stuff happening with every mint offering. For the 2009 UHRs, there was people preselling and selling at $100 above the mint price, even though ebay fees was going to take most of that profit. It's only after the initial chaos, that the real price settles out.

But I must admit, it is amusing to see some 'purist' collectors on their high horses saying they only buy to collect and not to flip, and how they were so turned off by the 25th anniversary release that they refuse to buy that series or any other.

To me, it seems like a true collector should be purchasing the highest quality at any price, including the 1995-w, not crying because he/she couldn't get the item at the mint price, which is the floor price. I can't say I'm a purist, but ****, if I can find a 1995-w at a decent price, maybe $2k, **** I'd buy it to keep in a heart beat. Not sure what level of collector I am, but I am an opportunist at the least

f you can get others to pay a premium to get what you were smart/lucky enough to buy in the first place, why not? This is America, and not some country where 1 set would be issued to every household that gave up X amount of food rations.

TOP 8 FOR THE AMERICAN EAGLE SILVER DOLLARS:

    (1) 1995w proof - mintage 30,102. worth $3,000.00 to $3,200.00. record high $7,500.00.

    (2) 2008w/7 burnished unc. (error) - mintage 46,318. worth $500.00.

    (3) 2011p reverse proof - mintage 99,980. worth $300.00

    (4) 2011s burnished unc. - mintage 99,980. worth 290.00

    (5) 2006w reverse proof - mintage 248,875. worth 275.00

    (6) 2012s reverse proof - mintage est 251,302 more or less - can go up to 350.00. if mintage fall below 2006w reverse proof number.

    (7) 2012s proof - mintage est 251,302 more or less - can hit $400.00. second lowest ASE (w) proof family after 1995w.

    (8) 2011w burnished unc. - mintage 394,670 (not final). can go as high as $100.00. lowest among ASE (w) burnished unc family. lower than 2006w burnished unc, 466,573.

note: one candidate was not offered is the 2012s burnished unc. another coin which could go up.

And why would you expect the 2012 coins to be worth more than the 2011 ones?

That's what stood out to me too. Looks like the 2011's are still under valued in that analysis, which is what I believe. The 2012 set may be be worth that someday, but when the secondary market is flooded, prices will be depressed, as they still are for the 2011 set, which is why you can buy a 2011 set key for about the same as the 2006 set key. As with most coins, low mintage and TIME are required to realize their potential. Let's face it, the $200 sales price for the 2012 set on eBay is nothing compared to its potential, but the supply of coins offered will have to dry up before that potential is reached.

I hope your right about the 2011 coins. I still have an unopened box of 5. I may open them when I retire as my gift to me. I've also got 3 sets of the 2012's. I don't think they'll be worth as much as the 2006 or the 2011 coins but I'm thining they will appreciate some.

I hope I'm right too, but in this game anything can happen. I've done ok, by at least buying coins with potential.

common sense. let do it this way.

2012s reverse proof. let's say equal to 2006w reverse proof. now this one is worth $275.00.

2012s proof with mintage 251,302. let's say equal to key date 1994p proof mintage 372,168 worth $100.00. 1994p proof got premium due to it hold the second lower mintage among (w) proof family. now it is replaced by 2012s proof.

what is the total for two coins - $375.00. right.

now. the 2012s reverse proof mintage might fall below 2006w reverse proof. it's possible. right. so 2012s price might go up higher than 2006w.

and the 2012s proof mintage is lower than key date 1994p. the price should be much higher than 1994p. right.

so the price for 2012s 2 coins set have a potential to go very high in the near future. of course we have to clear those willing to sell at $200.00. cause they thought this set is nothing but garbage.

    that is my analysis.

I think that the reverse proof will settle at about $150 with the proof at $100.

well. that might be the buying from dealers. as the dealers will go after e-bay to clear those sets. dealers buying price from us and selling price to us. nowadays. the gap is quite huge. like almost half price.

Perhaps it will be more like $163.33 and $86.67. I'm just trying to get to $250 somehow. I will go with your half price rule.

that's why don't play with coin market. play stock market. why?. commission for stock markets plus transaction tax. buying and selling back is only few per cent. while coin market is 50%. unless you do it or work it on your own by selling them at e-bay. again. you become doing your own business without salary. and those fees involved from e-bay, paypal, packaging, shipping and so forth. you have to do it by yourself. buy coins only if you are really a collector and disregard the profit or loss that may occur. just enjoy this wonderful hobby. at the end or in the long run. you could even make a lot of profit. just like me. most american eagle coins of mine cost me only $5.00 to $6.00 average.

I'm in full agreement. I don't sell coins. How could I sell my children:) Most of my cents cost a a cent, most of my nickels cost a nickel, most of my dimes cost a dime ..... I do splurge on mint products as a gift to myself and fill in holes in my collection using the other sources such as auctions, coin shows, ebay, and flea markets. It is fun!

if the mintage is the same as the 2006, stands to reason that the RP will be worth a similar amount.

The S mint doesn't seem to be as popular as the RP, therefore, it will be worth somewhat less. If I had to guess the longer term pricing, I'd say $150 - $200 for the RP and $125-150 for the S (raw).
