I'll go 64. I think the reverse is a 65 but the obverse holds it back.

64PL. I agree the reverse is higher, but the obverse holds it back.

    I'm thinking it's a vam 70.

It looks like a medium S to me.

I compared mint marks last night in the Gimp and didn't reach a conclusion. It has the shape of a Large S, but is quite a bit smaller.

My guess is 65 PL. No idea of the VAM.

Like I said this specimen came from a member here. Who has posted it before because it has something more to it other than the grade.
The coin was graded by INS in the early 90's the coin also has a Compugrade sticker on it with a code N9.
Now both Conder101 and Messydesk made replies to the original post by ddddd. I believe Messydesk hit it on the head.
He stated that the original owner most probably sent it in to Compugrade and asked for a grade. Let's say they asked for a MS-66 PL.
Compugrade didn't see it that way, and bagged the coin with their sticker on it coded N9 that was the code that they didn't agree with the grade asked for.
The original owner then sent it into INS who did grade the coin and for some reason the owner attached the Compugrade sticker onto the INS slab. Maybe as a reminder that they didn't give him the grade....maybe just because he wanted to....who knows? ? ? ?
What I do know is the coin was purchased this week from ddddd. He saw my post and sent me a pm last night regarding the coin. As he didn't know it was I who made the purchase from him.
Since then we have pm each other over this specimen ,his reasons for letting it go over having it for almost 2 years was to free up cash for other purchases . And I will add was very happy to know it went to a member here at CT.
That said I like the coin, love it's history , and the unknown about it ,......and now the the grade as given by INS.

Very cool slab!! You have to respect the fact that if a coin has remained in something like that this long, it should remain there. I have an ANACS photograde that I posted in another thread that was done back in 1981. There is no way I will separate the coin from it's first and current home. It's just too cool to mess with.

80 S are usually a strong strike coin. This coin looks like 65 with toning. The reverse is very nice with PL.

Very nice coin Paddy! That's a unique holder i think it's great you chose to leave it.;) I thought it was a MS-65 with the reverse having a nice PL strike the obverse was harder for me to tell:banghead: Great coin..
