I stayed busy during our 'lock-down' with my unwanted pennies. Completed my penny floor, one penny at a time! It's my foyer at my front door.
Is it stationary, and if so, how will you protect it from wear and tear? Congrats on your accomplishment and for posting it.
As someone who's experienced losing heat in the winter and A/C in the summer, I respectfully disagree.
You'll have to purchase some sealant. Epoxy w/ hardener mix. It's a project that can get away from you if you've never done it before. I'll post another picture of the coating. Looks like glass and 100% waterproof.
Do you know if the coins change color over time? This is the one thing I've wondered about a project like this. Do those bright shiny cents turn a dull brown after awhile.
According to the epoxy/hardener mix, it's not suppose to. It's too early for me to tell. I just put the sealant on not even a week ago. This is a first for me but, I will keep you posted.
Cool We aren't moving to a new house for a few years but I would like to do this to at least a portion of my basement in the new place. My own little area lol. The one thing that keeps me from considering it is if the coins were to change colors and then ruin the design.
Thanks for answering my question Steve. Looking forward to the finished product, all I can say at this point is WOW. Happy New Year
@steve westermeier very cool project. Safety question for you. Seeing that you've coated the entire pattern with epoxy, is it slippery when wet? The smooth coating of epoxy with a person walking across it with snow or water on their shoes seems like it's could be a bit more slippery.
When I did the research on the resin epoxy/hardener mix, one site said that the finished surface would be no different than tile, linoleum or any other type flooring. I'll let ya know when mine finishes curing and hardens.
I'm thinking about doing my kitchen counter tops. It's very time consuming but heck, I'm 64 yrs old and retired so I have plenty of time!!!
