Déjà vu. From last summer: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/post-your-ancient-coins-here.300340/ Have you bought another ancient coin, Noah? Why don't you show it off in a new thread and tell us a little about the coin?
How about maybe we toss our newest Ancient acquisition here until @Noah Finney shows us his? Here's mine: LYDIA, Bagis. Pseudo-autonomous issue. Æ28, 9.1g, 6h; AD 200-268. Obv.: CVNK–ΛHTOC; Youthful male bust of the Senate right. Rev.: KAICAPЄΩN BAΓHNΩN; Apollo standing right, holding lyre.
Like TIF said, why not make a thread just for a specific coin or types of coins? Even jwt708's idea to post newest acquisitions would be better.
I haven't received my newest yet and I already showed my newest received. Come on guys play along with Noah Here it is again though
One of my new ones--a Gallienus zoo coin! Gallienus, AD 253-268 Roman billon Antoninianus; 3.53 g, 20.1 mm, 1 h Rome, AD 267-268 Obv: GALLIENVS AVG, radiate head, right Rev: DIANAE CONS AVG, stag walking right; X I in exergue Refs: RIC 179K; Göbl 745b; Cohen 157; RCV 10201.
Well here are my first purchases from this year: Caracalla as Augustus, AD 211-217. Æ30, 16.2g, 7h; THRACE, Serdica. Obv.: AVT K M AVP CEVH ANTWNEINOC; Laureate head right. Rev.: OYΛΠIAC CEΡΔIKHC; Hygieia standing right, feeding serpent in arms Caracalla as Caesar, AD 196-198. Æ30, 16.5g, 1h. THRACE, Augusta Traiana. Obv.: AYT MAYPH ANTΩNINOC; Laureate head right. Rev.: AYΓOYCTHC TRAIANHC; Cybele seated left on throne, holding patera and resting arm on drum; lion seated to either side. I have a soft spot for Severan era provincials!
Just got this one yesterday: Troas Tenedos late 5th-early 4th C BCE AR Obol 8mm 0.60g Janiform hd female-male - Labrys within incuse square SNG Ash 1235 HGC 6 387
This one is also as Augustus. The portrait is much too old and has a laurel wreath. AVT would not be found on a Caesar coin. The bottom coin in the link below shows what to expect from a Caesar coin of this city. I do not have one. IMO any Provincial of Caracalla as Caesar is a little special since he was made Augustus at a young age. https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=4679426
Nothing wrong with a random "show your coins" thread every once in a while I suppose. Looking forward to seeing your newest Noah. You can see my favorites from last year here
Labrys is the term for a symmetric doubleheaded axe originally from Crete; to the Romans, it was known as a bipennis.
I agree there is always room for another thread where you show your coins but this is the ancient section so all coin show threads should be ancient so it is not too much to expect a new thread to set some subject more specific. The OP almost sounds like a post from Coin Talk ten years ago when there was almost no participation from people who collected ancients. I joined in 2009 and was not at all active for several years until the 'invasion' brought over a couple of hardcore ancient folks recently given the boot from Coin Community Forum. These days it would be nice to narrow it down a bit. For example: "Show coins that you would recommend every new collector might want to own." "Show ancient coins that are neither Greek nor Roman." "This is my new Pescennius Niger denarius; let's see yours." "I went to a coin show and look what I found." ...or a few hundred others. It is getting hard to find one we have not done before and there are a few that seem to make a new appearance every week or so but it's all good.
