Does anyone know of a smelter who will smelt your scrap gold, assay it and return it to you for a fee? Maybe be in a small bar?

The costs of such would be very much - you would be much better off selling your gold and buying a bar from a bullion dealer.

Unless you have several tens of ounces, most likely in terms of kilos, it's not worth it.

I use Midwest Refineriers. They pay 95% of spot price on the pure gold. They also don't have a min shipment so that is what I like. I sent them 2 grams last week of 14 k and it took 5 days to get my check.
