So what do you think is best for "fast, large" returns if not PMs? What is a better choice right now?

There are no "fast, large" returns now and almost never - it's thinking that there may be that gets a lot of folks into trouble.
Other than lottery tickets I know of no "fast, large" returns.
If you think this way investments of any and all types are most likely not for you.

    see bhp's post.

fast and large in physical PMs does not equate. it has taken PMs "several" generations to realize returns due to inflation.

if you are a day trader, who knows try your luck... the same can be said for the lottery and casinos.

PMs are to be for many years.

if you are willing to gamble, purchasing options on certain stocks maybe a quick way to see returns but again, this is a gamble and more fail than not.

It was you who indicated that PMs were not the BEST choice. I figured you had something else in mind. Seeing that you don't, you may want to reconsider the premise that PMs just might be the best choice at the present time since you have no evidence or analysis to the contrary. If you've ever participated in a fast-rising market, oil stocks several years ago for example, then you would realize that there frequently ARE fast and large returns to be captured as long as you don't get too greedy and overstay the bull market. PMs are up a lot since the turn of the century, but I think the fast and large gains are still ahead of us. Time will tell. Then, the biggest problem facing all of us will be when to sell to avoid the round trip.

Look the very term "fast, large returns" simply make no sence to me - it may to you but all I was saying that in my experience I know of no such thing being real. The very words are contridictary in my experience, it may not be in yours and if so I say "good for you"!
All I ever really know is what I read, see, hear others talk about and if they have profitted are not, and only then if I believe them. I only study, sell, buy and trade U.S. coins and die varieties and I watch and learn from others. I see very real coin sellers, coin shops, collectors and dealers on a weekly and monthly basis. PM's may be good for many but I never heard them mentioned in the same breath as "fast, large" returns by anyone!
Again the very best coin seller I know has $900,000 on his/her table each month, probably more. He/she has worked for over 25 years building his/her collection for sale. He/she has had much luck and worked very hard and has been more successful than any dealer I know of - he/she is the envy of dozens and dozens of people. This person has more gold, more silver, and more platinum that all of us put together. Rolls and rolls, boxes and boxes but this person would laugh at the idea of anything in the coin world being "large and fast returns". Are we not talking about the coin world including PM's?
Then the above is IMO only from what I know, what I see, what I have heard.
You know I can comment about and think about the fact that PM's are not a good investment without having anything else in mind??
I never made a cent in much else but finding die varieties and gem coins.
The only thing I'm willing to and do invest in is family, knowledge, new ideas, old thoughts and trying to do the next right thing at the right time - of the latter I fail often! The only return on that is try again tomorrow!
I care very little about any investments anywhere - I have none thank god to worry about.

Ok Ben. I just like to find out why people set limits like that. Be careful when you choose to believe others [including me] if they tell you something can't be done.

Just curious, and no offense, but do you save for retirement or some such?

I hope if you do business with this person regularly, you'd know if they were male or female by now.

There is no reason to further identify this seller as either male or female.
In the context it was written it's a none issue.

So the topic is if you own, want to own or like owning bullion does the thought of it, wish for it, importance of it cause you to be a little jaded, (or in love) with this just because it's gold, silver, or platinum and then set it apart from more logical reasoning in regards to other commonly traded items?

I own gold. I like owning bullion. No, I don't have "gold/silver/platinum fever". I'm not jaded. I purchased it for a rainy day and have no problems with parting with it, when the time comes.

When I got out of college, I decided to buy 10 ounces of gold every year for a rainy day. 25 years later, I don't regret that decision at all.

Thats cool.. I was just curious as you spoke earlier about not liking investments. It sounds like in your case its a good choice for you.

For me, we own two small business... they are our nest egg, however, we need something to put some of the excess cash into that is better than the current money market. This is just one facet of the savings... but being self employeed, there is no safety net for us, no retirement unless we make one for ourselves. I will not trust the 401K's & such that are out there, as we watch too many friends loose years worth of savings in them.

We invest a lot in ourselves... our businesses have no debt.. ect. But PM's give us a fun way to sock away money for a rainy day down the road.. and its something we can hold onto, and not watch disappear from our account statement from merril lynch.
