Who says they are little know or obscure….My favorite gold coins are libertads and pesos, followed by pandas and pre 33 US gold.
You're stunned at a truism that a lesser-traded product, for which there are TONS OF SUBSTITUES (gold coins), faces headwinds from low availability and liquidity ? Sorry, while those forces may or may NOT offset other positive factors (I own Libertads), it's still a fact that for many American and international gold/bullion holders, they value LIQUIDITY. You get that with American Eagles, Maple Leafs, and Krugerrands. Not saying Libertads can't be sold or don't have decent liquidity (they do) -- but not to the extent of the other more popular coins.
That's NOT what I said or implied, NM. I said that Mexican Libertads suffered -- faced a headwind might be more accurate -- that other modern bullion coins do NOT face, namely liquidity and popularity. Ultimately, they are still made of gold so there's a floor to their price. But I know a dealer or two who dont' deal in anything other than American Eagles because of their clients needs and liquidity.
I like 'em all too ...my point was just that compared to the more popular bullion series, they have fewer followers and are lesser traded.
