    That's not necessarily true.

One's standard of living can go up even as the currency goes down -- U.S. dollar 1946-1980 -- and even during shorter periods of time.

The United States Dollar is a global reserve currency. Ergo, it must be in greater supply than if it were just meeting domestic demand. With greater supply, the dollar declines slowly over time. This is NOT incompatible with economic growth and maintenance of purchasing power in real time.

The best hedge against inflation or decline in your currency ? Stocks.

My heart is more like Warren Buffet's on Bitcoin...but my head says its here to stay.

That's not to say about other crypto currencies. Ultimately, Bitcoin might be Amazon and the rest of the crypos are all those internet companies like Pets.com that went belly-up.

Smaller denomination gold coins have a lower FV...but higher premiums.

More demand for the smaller coins....and with the absolute cost much less (10-50%) of a 1-ounce coin...more buyers.

You get a DISCOUNT for buying a full 1-ounce (sometimes even 1/2 ounce) but many people don't want to stretch; they'd rather buy multiple ounces of silver or a single small gold coin.

I call that the Costco effect, if your going to buy GOLD the lowest buying premium
can be had there, picked up a couple onces for only $18 above spot at current levels
so was really happy about that :)

Curious...did you goto Costco just for the gold...and end up buying other stuff too ?

Or just went for the gold and just bought gold ?

I can get the Costco hot dog for a $1.50 in town so there no lure there
unfortunately I have to drive an hour in a half to St George it makes allot
of sense. as I have learned they usually get there shipments in on
Wednesday and they price it right there and that doesn't change so
it can be up or down, just have to catch it at the right time last weekend
picked up a couple onces for $26 over spot, some body pinch me...LOL

According to Yahoo Finance, it crossed 2800 yesterday. $2813 at close today. I'm not sure but I think it briefly touched 3000 a couple of months ago? Might have been an intraday thing.

Longhorn Steakhouse is the best you can do in Vegas? I'm not sure you meant that, not sure where St George is. I'll bet any casino in Vegas has a steak 10 times better than that, and cheap. Some of the finest steaks I've ever eaten were at casinos. :D

I encourage you to re-read my final paragraph in that post . . . “And don't deceive yourself into thinking you're getting rich off the increase in metals . . . if metals preserve your purchasing power as fiat declines, your standard of living is not increasing. You're simply treading water while those in fiat are losing ground.”

The italicized words do not imply an increase in purchasing power of metals. Preservation connotes maintenance, not growth. If metals merely maintain their purchasing power as fiat declines relative to metals, those in fiat are indeed losing ground.

Just be happy you don't live in my state where I'd estimate 3/4 of the residents would vehemently disagree with you!
I'm just happy to avoid conflict by having high fences/gates/barbed-wire/patrol-dogs, establishing "good-neighbors/family" that don't express their differing opinions!
Regardless, the property-tax assessors establish their opinions with double-digit unsupported increases.
I believe we can only win when they close the cover! JMHO :)

Property taxes and insurance certainly isn't getting better. I don't have homestead protection on our gulf place as it is considered a second home. I'm getting killed between that and the insurance, and hurricanes ain't helping out one bit, even though I've never filed a claim. Several double eagles worth. :(
