Gold coins are more expensive than ever before, prices are crazy so I try to stay away but that's not always possible and sometimes I cave into my gold fever! Got this Classic Head 1836 half eagle today in the mail, nothing special but she fits right in with my other stuff!
I picked this up in April. I normally avoid auctions as the fees etc. add about 35% to the hammer price. But I couldn't resist the chance to complete the set of relatively affordable classic gold commemoratives. The $50 Round and Octagonal Panama Pacific coins will have to wait until I win a lottery prize or some unknown rich relative bequeaths me their fortune. I have a better chance of winning the lottery. It's an XF-45.
Yeah I just got it back from ANACS, here's some quick pics! Got a details grade but that's okay at least it's a 60, most expensive quarter eagle I own, that's okay no regrets!
The 1994 (left; mintage 16,800) and 1995 (right; mintage 13,725) and 1998 (mintage 4,175!) Chinese 1/2 ounce gold Pandas in my Master Set. All in original mint packaging and purchased from a local PNG (Professional Numismatic Guild) member dealer many years ago. Official mintage numbers are questionable vs survivors based on suspected in-China melting down over the years.
