That's all I've got for 1496. I hope that if any of you have a
    question you will ask.

At various times throughout this thread, I have wanted to be talerman, panzerman and at least one or two others - because of their knowledge, fantastic coin specimens, or kindness . . . You've been added to my list, tibor. You have a spectacular collection, an apparent wide range of knowledge, and you seem to be a decent numismatist in the social graces. I'm green with envy. Thank you so much for sharing.

@DEA Thank you for the kind words. I consider it an honor to be
on a list that includes @talerman and @panzerman . They both
have museum quality collections. I've built this set since 2001. I
bought my first two pieces from Glenn Schinke. I buy mostly from
auctions (European) and MA-shops. Right now I have 220+ in the
collection, all different. When I hit 300 then I will really slow down.
When this thread reaches the 1470's there maybe a date or two
    missing from my collection.

    1495 I - Pfalz Heidelberg copy.jpg
The auction company that I bought this from this past fall (2018)
had a hard time attributing this coin. I could not find a reference
for it in the Levinson book. The next few days I will send a pic to
    Bob for his opinion.

This piece is similar to the previous coin but with the date on
one side only. This variety comes with the date on either by
itself or on both sides at the same time. From the Schneeberg
    mint.

I have greatly enjoyed this thread and I hope, thanks principally to @tibor, to continue to enjoy it for some time. Having started with later modern coins, for the last many years I have concentrated on the silver and minor coins of Europe between 1500 and 1700, when the Renaissance changed Europe from the Middle Ages to the modern world amidst numerous rulers and conflicts all reflected in the coinage. Early on I decided I preferred quantity to (up to a limit) quality and therefore decided not to collect gold, a poor decision from an investment point of view. However, this thread, notably @panzerman, has also shown me all the beauty I have missed. However, I like minors, the coins of the people, even if not beautiful, and I have enjoyed the many posted by contributors to this thread. Now @tibor is showing me what I have missed before 1500, the ancestors of many of my coins with the same heraldry.

Beautifull example Tibor! This coin is listed in Friedberg as number 1982
    AV Goldgulden 1491
    Elector Phiipp I 1449-1508
mint not given/ previous goldguldens shown as minted in Bacharach.
I missed out on a MS example in German auction, got outbid:(

Tibor, are you sure your coin is not dated 1497, which would make it Levinson I-369 ?

  20. tibor

    tibor Supporter! Supporter

@talerman I am very sure that it is 1495. The "5" is in the medieval form
of a lightning bolt. The " 5" looks like a sideways "Z ". I will send the pictures to Bob Levinson for his opinion . On my computer I am able to magnify the date area. I hope I'm correct.

This Schilling was minted in Damm. This piece also from
the Cervin collection. I have three other 1494 pieces but
    they need Todd's magic touch.
