Sorry all, I've not been paying the proper attention to this thread as I've been in Italy the last few weeks and doing wedding related things before that.

But fear not! I will post a 1639 coin when I get back to the states so consider this post a placeholder.

*IMAGINE CURTISIMO'S EPIC 1639 COIN HERE*

I have been out of town. Let me catch up with the years I have missed.

1641 AIRE-sur-le-Lys (under Spain) 1 Real Siege Klippe issued when city besieged by the French

Aire changed hands a number of times. In 1641 the Spaniards returned and besieged the newly installed French garrison who in turn struck siege coins. They were forced to surrender to the Spaniards in December 1641.

Love that Mainz 3-thaler! The klippe is cool, too.

    (Heck, they're all neat.)

I thought one of the rules was not to use date ranges. It’s a nice coin though.

No! Don't feel bad! This thread needs to keep going...I just didn't want a winning entry to be forgotten. 146 pages later it's hard to remember it was really a contest that was started thanks to @Curtisimo :). Your coins are awesome!

Probably, if we would have been living in Central Europe in 1638.....there would have been a good chance we had a few of these in our wallet. The lower classes used copper/ small change silver/ while the Middle Class used Talers/ Dukats/ the Upper Classes the 5/10/20/30 Dukats.

In order to "stay tuned", i.e. strike coins that would be similar to the official state (King of France) emissions, Gaston d'Orleans would have his effigy constantly modified on the coins he issued in the Dombes principality. Here are two different busts type on 1638 double tournois
