[QUOTE="2schnauzers2luv, post: 1429686, member: 26161"]For the past year or so, I've been picking up "full rim" Barber dimes, quarters and halves in Good-4. Usually coin shops just have these sitting around in a small box, loose, collecting dust. I've talked to a few dealers and they've said that they just don't have the time to package these and display them in holders to sell, especially with them having such a low grade. Some dealers are waiting for silver to climb again and these dusty boxes of Barbers are going to be sent to the smelter. It's my understanding that many were sent off when silver broke the $40 barrier months ago. Makes me think FREE MONEY.

Right now I have 26 halves, 32 quarters and 53 dimes in Good-4 full rims and better. I am finding many coins in these "Junk" boxes that grade G4, G6, VG8, VG10 and even a few Fines. With these being purchased at melt or a few cents over, makes me think FREE MONEY. That's just taking in to consideration melt value. When you discover a 1913-S half in VG and you're paying between $11 and $12, now you're talking collector value too. Especially with that particular half being valued in the $21 to $25 dollar range. Not everything bearing the title of junk is necessarily that. There are some great values to be found if you'll just look. And what's more fun than the thrill of "The Hunt" in this hobby?

I just think IF these low grade Barbers are actually headed to the melting pots eventually, why not pick up a few. The dimes, quarters and halves are in the $2.25, $6.00 and $11.50 ranges respectfully and are very affordable. Pick up a few here, a few there, a few today and a few later. You'll be surprised at how many Barbers you've obtained in a short period of time and it won't be a big hit on your wallet. Which, in essence, makes me think FREE MONEY!

So, as always, you folks can say yea or nea. But this is what I've been doing and been having fun while doing it.
