:loud: In all false modesty , my prediction in the OP four (4) months ago (07 August 2011) was for a 2010 Silver Proof set final sales number of 582,489. We're now at 580,845 with just ten (10) days left to go...and that's just 1,644 away.

Last week's sales were 1,071. Increase that by 150 (average Dec weekly gain) and we get 1221 for the next seven (7) days. That would give a daily sales figure of 175...times 10 gives 1750. It's "Possible" that the "Yakpoo Prediction" could end up being less than 100 off! (WooHoo!)

    (thank-you, thank-you very much)

It will be interesting to see what happens to the sales of the 2011 Silver Proof sets once the 2010s sets sell out. :thumb:

Happy Holidays to you, too. (and everyone else on CT)

Any predictions about the 2012 sets? Cost, whether you think Silver price will go down in the year after it's released so that the price will drop?

OK...here's what I "think" (and why I think it)...there will be plenty around to say I'm crazy and maybe I am, so please take my comments with a grain of salt.

The chart below shows continued upward pressure on PMs punctuated by steep drops which correlate to government intervention in the options market. This is what I would expect to see in an election year when demand for PMs is high and the economy is down; the dips represent the application of "lipstick on the pig". Meaning, significant headwinds to recovery are high commodity prices. One would expect prices to be down in a soft economy, but they're rising...mostly due to investor anxiety over our debt crisis. The short term "fix" is to change the regulatory environment to drive the evil speculators (anyone with a 401k account) out of the market.

I just checked the Federal Register and I don't see any price announcements for 2012 US Mint product, yet. Here's the Federal Registry US Mint Pricing for 2011.

I think the US Mint realizes that PM prices are being manipulated and won't want to lower their prices too much...but they will lower prices some to demonstrate to the Numismatic community that "they understand" . I suspect they will drop prices about 12% to...

2012 Silver Proof Quarter set: $36.95
    2012 Silver Proof Set: $59.95

...but not any more than that. That may be asking too much of the Mint as it is.

Of course, they can't release the 2012 sets at a lower price than the 2011 sets which is why (I think) we're seeing a delay in the release of the 2012 Silver Proof sets.

I regret to inform the followers of this thread (both of them) that this week's sales report hasn't been released, yet...likely due to the Christmas holiday. I expect the weekly report will come out tomorrow (Wednesday) and the final sales figures :hail: the following Wednesday (due to the New Year holiday). You can cut the tension with a knife!! :too-cool-for:

Actually, this thread has been chosen to be on my personal top 10 CT Threads of The Year list. This is fun and exciting to me. Love it! I think there are quite a few people following this thread than just a couple, that's for sure. People are just watching and waiting and being a little silent right now. Everybody holds their breath at the near end of any countdown.
