Well, as it happens, this has landed on my desk this morning:
    France 1709 token 1-horz.jpg
Louis XIV token dated 1709. I have only found one so far on the net and that appears to have a reference "Feu 3856" if I am reading it right.

Continuing the "buildings" theme (I had to go back to the last page to see what we were doing).

This was the only time I have received a 70-grade on a coin I submitted for certification. It's a beauty. Came right out of Austrian mint packaging, of course.

Here is one of my earliest coins as a very young collector. I was travelling with my parents and picked up this very beat up coin at a street flea market in Madrid in the mid 70s. I made it worse by cleaning it with tooth paste. :(

I think all of us who started collecting as kids have a similar story or two. I know I do.

(*Pencil eraser to an AU 1878-S Morgan dollar, in my case.)

Let's switch from buildings to Conder tokens, for a brief period before we do something else. (This one covers both themes, of course.)

Great Britain (Chichester, Sussex): copper Conder token ("Chichester Halfpenny"), 1794

Reverse: view of Chichester Market Cross, date in exergue.
