Yes, completely agree....I had this problem with Aphrodite....The Phrygia. Laodikeia would have been an easy cheap option but there was just too much speculation for me as to whether it portrayed Aphrodite or Laodice.....BTW cool looking drachm I do like the owl reverse design on these coins.

..:D.....I actually take comfort knowing there are specialist collectors such as yourself who are willing to help. If I'm ever unsure I know who to ask.
Very nice! I was unaware of this type so thanks for sharing.

@Alegandron......Great coin and I think quite rare?....Nice that it was minted in Samos too....

I believe it is supposed to be difficult to find.

Great coin @Spaniard! I like collecting coins of the Greek islands, so nice choice :)

I got the exact same type:
    Ionia, Samos Æ Bronze (394 - 365 B.C)
    Obverse:
Head of Hera to left wearing stephane and necklace with pendants.
    Reverse: Lion’s scalp facing front.
Reference: SNG von Aulock 2296; SNG Cop. 1694.
    1.70g; 12mm

Here also a (later) drachm from Samos:
Ionia, Samos AR Drachm (Rhodian Plinthophoric standard) or Tetrobol (Attic Standard, according to Barron), 210 - 185 B.C.
    Obverse: Facing lion scalp.
Reverse: ΣAMIΩN; Forepart of ox charging right; krater, grape bunch, and grain ear below.
    Reference: HGC 6, 1241; Barron 2.
    2.96g; 17mm

    @Pavlos.... Thanks........That's 2 really nice coins!..
Your bronze has lettering below the lion scalp whereas mine hasn't, is there a reference difference??
The Drachm is lovely, with nice toning and great detail....Sweet coin!
The Samians certainly liked their lion skins and oxes...Thanks for sharing.

Mine indeed has the abbreviation of Sa[amos] below. I still need to have a closer look to the references, I see SNG Cop 1694 listed for coins with and without ethnic, but I think the plate coin is without ethnic if I should believe CNG: https://www.cngcoins.com/Coin.aspx?CoinID=285295

I've totally missed this thread but found it trough the search function. @Spaniard You've got a great collection so far! I have been thinking a long time to collect Greek coins with mythological motif. A couple of days ago I finally ordered my first Greek ever to start my own 12 Olympians in bronzes.
