This one may be worth more than a buck to the toned coin enthusiasts at CoinTalk. This 1974-S silver Ike appears very flashy & iridescent in hand. Of course, the colors change as you move it around under different lighting. The majority of the obverse is a Champaign yellow color which is quite bright with some underlying red and orange where the surface appears darker in my photos. Perhaps a toned coin expert could describe the toning effect better than I have. IMO this NEWP is darn attractive. :smile
There are three ticks in the field at Eisenhower’s chin (probably from another coin’s reeded edge). I believe the ticks made it clear this Ike couldn't grade higher than MS67.
Great pickup collect. I agree that is a very good looking Ike! In the words of the infamous Collect89: "and I am not a lady"
It is fun to search the CoinTalk archives for previous threads. Here is one from 2008 describing toned Ike dollars. http://www.cointalk.com/t30268/
I was hoping to see folks post colorful Ikes like some of the coins in this registry set: http://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/alltimeset.aspx?s=5525
Thank you for the coin complement. :smile I’m still hoping that other toned coin enthusiasts (like Lehigh etc) can post some more colorful Ikes. All my better Ike dollars are error coins & my other colorful coins are not Ikes. Stay thirsty my friends.
I'll throw some of mine in here. Although, this is the active thread for some pretty Ikes. http://www.cointalk.com/t51904/ Coinguy-Matthew is the one with some real beauties!
I have never seen that Ike thread! It was started in 2009 and includes 75 pages of awesome coins. My bad. I never make it to the US coin section unless I get linked over there. I personally check (1) coin chat, (2) world, and then (3) error if time permits. Although I do a fair amount of roll searching in the winter months, I seldom visit the roll searching section. I may have to change my habits & invest more time in the US coin section. THANKS FOR THE LINK.
