I ate too much of it and nearly got sick over the weekend! : ( The book from CAC was much better. : )
The last time that I bought anything from APMEX was in August 2008. I had very good past experiences with buying from APMEX and I never had any problems with them. I stopped buying from them because I was concentrating on buying specific 1-oz 1970's silver art bars and APMEX did not have any specific ones that I wanted.
Oh yea they charge 24.95 for what you buy . I had a 42lb box delivered a year ago for 24.95 which I thought was rather cheap. Their market is larger purchases. I have never seen a dealer not get a premium piece, and not want a premium price for it.
I have bought tens of thousands of dollars of PMs from Apmex. I've been exceedingly satisfied with the transactions.
I'm holding off buying from them until the price of silver comes down. Over the past month, their price for bulk BU Morgans has been $35 to $38 and the price of silver hasn't been up or down that much. That is one item of theirs I am watching like a hawk. $35 is reasonable to me. Any higher? Nope. Not worth it in my book. They are more of a bullion dealer and are a business to make money.
if you buying a lot of bullion coins. you can not miss apmex. they got a lot of stuffs and inventories.
For a few silver coins it is not practical. If you are going to buy a tube of gold or silver , $ 24.95 shipped and insured is small percentage wise. Apmex is a solid company and has very good customer service across the board. I think all that can be said has been said. The forum benefits from their advertising support also.
As far as apmex charging a fee for using a cc, that may change soon. My brother works for visa's fraud disputes division and he says they're trying to write it into their usage agreement that companies cannot levy a fee to recoup the 2.5-5% that visa charges per transaction. Until then, if it bothers you just don't use them, but they're not doing anything wrong. Also, apmex isn't a monopoly, and they have the right to price their merch however they see fit. Since they sold out of this product it stands to reason from an economical standpoint, their pricepoint, if anything, was too low. I agree that for the price I would never buy them, but as long as people will at a given cost, they're in the right.
But they can chose not to accept CC's. And that is what I'd do if I was APMEX and they tried that stuff. Their for I bet the CC company's don't try that on them. Just on the smaller company's that can't help to fight it.
