You are right...how dare they..how dare they try and actually make a profit...I guess we should all stop buying things from those evil companies that try to rip all of us Americans off. Why don't you give us a list of companies that we can buy from that consistently lose money.
An Objective Response!! Thanks for the well stated post! Very concise, without personal slander! An appreciated presentation/response! RICH :thumb:
It seems that APMEX is holding a gun to some people's heads here insisting they buy something. Either that or they just like to complain a lot.
If you think "ampex" or APMEX (American Precious Metals Exchange) prices are too high you can always try and purchase the same items on the secondary market.
Actually, I am sitting on $20,000 dollars, which my wife and I allocated for THIS PURCHASE. It is galling to not even be able to weigh in on buying one. I am on their alert list, for goodness sakes. About the personal attack: Don't know what's going wrong in your life, but name calling on a forum is unappreciated and unnecessary. If you think of it, adopt an adult conversational tone to reader ire at being soaked by profiteers. You will be better off to engage in meaningful discourse about coins, and not attack the personal characteristics of a forum member.
Interesting, never saw the Admins delete a thread on Apmex or defend Apmex. As matter of fact I think they have always been very fair in their conduct when performing their duties. I'm guessing but, in a next few months and perhaps years to come, I suspect we can expect some rants posted within this forum about those individuals who brought these items from APMEX and are now selling them for a profit. Just for the record. Let me state this now. How dare those individuals do such a thing!
It's up to each and every one of you to complain to the proper mint authorities. I suggest you do that in writing . The mint was the facillitator of price fixing, simply by means of their release .
I've dealt with APMEX for a couple of years and never had any problem with them. Pretty easy to deal with and always seem fair. If I could find something cheaper elsewhere I just buy it there. What they charge is up to them, just as what I buy is up to me. Why would I never buy from them again?
Don't you understand? AMPEX has a contract with the U.S. mint to distribute bullion products to buyers they are 1 of 10 dealers who have this contract they will always make a profit because of this contract I just see them being a little to greedy because they know there will be very high demand for these coins. AMPEX is not a retailer of coins when it comes to U.S. bullion.
I never had a problem with AMPEX before, I am just angry at AMPEX for pricing this item so high due to a great demand for these coins. they are a distributer of U.S. bullion not a retail outlet for the U.S. mint. If they didn't have an exclusive contract to distribute bullion I would have no problem with someone making a profit on a very high demand item, Wait until these show up on ebay I think $500 a coin will be asked. RB
Sorry you didnt' care for Apmex. I've dealt with them several times with great success. I don't care to be charged extra for using a credit card, but many dealers do that. Others have mentioned kitco and gainsville. I've had good luck buying bullion products from Paul Sims, Coast to Coast, L&C - all dealers that advertise in Coin World and Numismatic News. rono
Ampex is probably considered both a wholesaler and a retailer of bullion. Since the requirement to bid to be one of the primary wholesalers ( like Ampex) is very stringent, few can satisfy it. See below: http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q...YXIhLz&sig=AHIEtbRuhRhWhtl9MLSy-3a6SPeM2lEkdg There are no requirement that they sell/purchaser at any set price or %, as it is not assured that the price will go up, down, or remain stable. If one doesn't have the above requirements, but does maybe 1 or $2 million in sales, they could contract with Ampex to be a secondary seller, thus you have major coin dealers doing that.
APMEX is very clear on their policies, they provide good service and you can trust them. I don't fault them for wanting to make some profit off basically "dummies" who are paying numismatic prices or more for a bullion coin. It's very similar to people who will pay dearly for a "first strike ms 70" designation on a bullion buffalo. These coins have been hyped for over a year and when the US Mint starts selling proof versions, their "investment" will drop to spot prices. So the crying against APMEX is just that, crying. If you don't like them then don't buy from them, but as for myself, I like choice and will use them when it suits my purpose. They can be trusted, they deliver what they promise, and they are upfront on all their policies. Honestly this sounds like a lot of sour grapes coming from expectations of getting spot prices, paid for with a credit card no less, get free shipping, for a single coin, crowd. I hate to break it to you, but the bullion world doesn't work like Walmart.
i recently bought a roll of 1996 Silver Eagles from APMEX ... i recommend them highly (got them well under market) (can't speak for other's experiences)
I have done several purchases with APMEX. None with Kitco or North West Territorial Mint. Every time, for the quanities I want to purchase, APMEX has been the best. No issues with them in all my purchases. Now, if who ever is driving up the price of silver, Ben Bernank, I'd like you to stop.
Gainesville has quoted people prices ranging from $1500 to $2195 today. Then the US Mint shut the whole thing down. Who knows what will happen next.
APMEX has cancelled all orders for the 5 oz ATB bullion. The mint called a halt to the profiteering and is evaluating how to distribute these fairly.
