I have no idea if War Nickels are a good investment. I can tell you that I have a few of them (900ish). I love the look of them. All are circulated. I love to handle them too. They now live in the safety deposit box, so our coffee time has really dropped off.
Yes it matters. I just pulled a large quantity of silver halves - 40% from roll searching. I would have rather had the same net troy ounces of silver in 90% coins. The premiums are better.
If you're looking for silver coinage as an investment then I suggest buying American Silver Eagles. Most coin dealers haven the bullion ASEs, ones withouth a mintmark, for $3-$5 over the price of 1 ounce of silver, or spot. Other coins containing silver, Morgans, Peace, Trades, quarters, dimes, and halves pre-1970 are mostly collected and by a lot of collectors, not looked upon as an investment into the precious metal.
Your dad is a wise man. I agree that surviving numbers of halves, quarters and dimes from late 1940's to 1964 are much lower that we think. Higher grade examples of these are a real bargain right now. TC
im not a bot i was just bored so i answered alot ......and the sky is blue thank you v ery much:hatch:
"Nickels contained 30 percent silve rin 1942 1943 1944" I believe that it is 35% silver (Ag) and not 30%.
Duncan, I dont think anyone was thinking you were a bot....but now that I think about it....can you be sure you are not a bot? I would ask someone you trust before you write off the bot option. Just sayin'...
