Dump is a great word. That's where it may end up judging from the expertise you have shown so far. I'll bet all the professional conservators can't wait to see a few lines of text with all the useful info you have to share. o_O I sure am excited.

My dad had a book in our library that he would bring out to show to each of his new girlfriends. The book was three inches thick titled: "What My Years of Experience with Women has Taught Me" by John Smith. The women were so excited to look at it and could hardly believe they were dating a famous author.

When he handed it to them and they opened it ... ALL THE PAGES WERE BLANK! :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

I wish you lots of luck. As my dear old mother used to say: "You get what you pay for."

Don't. When I was a young collector, one local dealer scrubbed every coin in his shop with Ipana Toothpaste.:hilarious::hilarious:

Yep, I believe it's called the scientific method. Funny thing about that. When you have been cleaning o_O:oops: coins for over fifty years you don't need notes anymore.

I don't need to be doing experiments either for the uninformed. Coins don't change (except the new pres and sac $). Everything that I learned/did decades ago still works. Over time I learn about new things such as Verti-Care which I have found to be not suitable or of very limited use for my needs. I have proven methods and chemicals, etc. I don't wish to share this info but many of the professionals at conservation services do many of the same things I do. I HAVE SHARED INFO WITH THEM. There are only a few "trade secrets" left. Anyone who can read can learn to conserve coins properly. Nevertheless, each of us has a few tricks.

Now, I have promised to post some photos and I am taking notes to describe what you will see. This is "back burner stuff to me. I just got home from work and have not eaten yet but reading all the snarky posts is FOOD FOR MY SOUL.

    Dear Super Dave,

I want all the members of CT to know that you have NEVER answered ANY direct question I have asked of you; yet you insist on :yack::yack::yack: making accusations about me, my motives, my lack of knowledge, etc. CT is a place to "dump" your knowledge for us.

Oh wise one:rolleyes:...I want you to QUOTE one contradiction I have made in my posts. Otherwise, please ZIP IT! No please don't, just post a quote.:nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting:

    Goodnight Sweetheart

My book would have a similar title dealing with numismatics. All the pages would also be BLANK!:bigtears:

When I was young I polished a silver bracelet with toothpaste and found out it was silver plated. Back then toothpaste was made with a fine abrasive (fossilized skeletons of protozoan sea life) Today its made with plastic micro beads which are not as hard and sharp. I just tried it on a dirty nickel and it did a real nice job, took out all the dirt and stains but, to my eye, did not affect the surface of the nickel. But, those professional graders can see things that I can't.

I find it hard to believe that toothpaste which is produced to remove plaque from teeth would not scratch a proof or high MS coin.

It does. However, there may be a particular brand, some organic stuff or other whatever that is less abrasive. I don't plan on testing hundreds of pastes to find out for sure. As in...Who cares

Do you think? Did you examine it with a magnifying glass after the scrub? I'll guarantee if that coin had DIRT on it, now it is hairlined/scratched up and bright.

The nickel I tried it on is clean as can be, details stand out and it does not look like it has been polished or buffed. I looked at it with a 20X lighted magnifier and see no trace of scratching. I'm almost convinced that it's a good way to go, but not convinced enough to try it on a MS collectible. Maybe I'll try it on a piece of pocket change then send it in for grading. That nickel I tried it on was just pocket change; it looks great now.

Your opinion is inconsequential, to numismatics in general and myself in particular, excepting the great service you're doing to add credence to my postings. Anyone can look at our accumulated posts to see who's adding actual content and who's dealing FUD, and my record stands on that.

Keep up the good work. You make me look like a genius, and I'm genuinely grateful.

How about one where you directly contradict yourself - in one single post !

    ToughCOINS commented -

    - to which you answered -

Then in the very same post, you said this -

Now if that's not the very definition of contradicting yourself ............

And if anybody needs a link to see it for themselves -

All I know is I've killed two Kennedy proofs with dip, the MS ones turn out nice.
