The Postman just delivered this to me today, Denarius of Nerva 98 AD (3.3g). Part of my collection of the Five Good Emperors that I'm building. I particularly like the red & blue toning on the obverse, and the strike of Nerva's bust! I'm just wondering how much would you guys have paid for this (mine's 90 USD).
That's lovely, @JayAg47 ! I don' think you overpaid for that one. It's well-centered and has lovely toning. I don't have a Salus reverse type of Nerva, but here's my Nerva with the most pleasing toning: Nerva, AD 96-98. Roman AR denarius, 3.37 g, 16.5 mm, 7 h. Rome, Oct-Dec AD 97. Obv: IMP NERVA CAES AVG P M TR P II COS III P P, laureate head right. Rev: IVSTITIA AVGVST: Justitia, draped, seated right on low backed chair, feet on stool, holding long straight scepter in right and branch extended in left. Refs: RIC 30; Cohen 103.
That is a good looking Nerva. Especially nice bust and prominent schnoze! I paid $90 for my Nerva, the most I've paid for any coin ever, and I don't think it is as nice as yours. IMO you did well Nerva Denarius Obverse: IMP NERVA CAES AVG P M TR P COS III P P, laureate head right Reverse: AEQVITAS AVGVST, Aequitas standing left, holding scales and cornucopiae
This Nerva denarius, which I bought as a brown slug (cleaning process described here) cost me around €5 as part of a group lot. Had a lot of fun cleaning it: ROMAN IMPERIAL, Nerva Denomination: AR denarius, minted: Rome, Italy; 98 AD Obv: IMP NERVA CAES AVG GERM P M TR P II: Head of Nerva, laureate, right Rev: IMP II COS IIII P P: Clasped hands holding aquila set on prow, left Weight: 3.17g; Ø:1.8mm Catalogue: RIC II 49 Provenance: Found near Tongeren (2017, Limburg, the Netherlands), ex private collection; acq.: 12-2018
To see my Nerva, one must travel to Egypt. His nose was known to be prominent by the mint. Type: Billon Tetradrachm, 25mm, 12.7 grams, mint of Alexandria year 96-97 A.D. Obverse: Bust of Nerva facing right, KAIS SEB AVT NEPOVAS Reverse: Agathodaemon serpent coiled with head right, holding caduceus and grain ear within coils, wearing the crowns of Upper and Lower Egypt. In exergue, LA. Reference: Milne 542, Dattari 638 (rare)
@JayAg47.......Nice coin!...Great nose! .....A Nerva Denarius was the last purchase to complete my 5 good emperors set last year and set me back around a ton all in, so the op coin at 90 bucks IMO is a good price....Which emperors do you now need to complete your set? Nerva AR Denarius. Rome, AD 97. Obverse..IMP NERVA CAES AVG P M TR POT, laureate head right Reverse..COS III PATER PATRIAE, Priestly emblems: simpulum, aspergillum, guttus, and lituus. $79 in 1990 from Tom Cederlind (not know for being cheap but usually had decent coins) $100 in 2019 from Andy Singer (usually reasonable) IMHO, you did well.
I've so far received Nerva, Trajan, and Antoninus Pius, while I've just bought Hadrian and M Aurelius (idk when they'll arrive, cuz I just use standard post).
I think you did well too. Mine from a few years ago was $110. NERVA AR Denarius. 2.88g, 17.4mm. Rome mint, AD 97. RIC 14; Cohen 20. O: IMP NERVA CAES AVG P M TR P COS III P P, laureate head right. R: CONCORDIA EXERCITVVM, clasped hands. Ex Ratto sale January 1956, lot 366
