Hi, i actually emailed the seller to ask him if he was selling in ounce instead of pound pricing. He told me the base metal copper price is for scrap(recycled) copper. The bars he is selling is .999 pure copper, thats where the price difference is.

    re: cheap jewelry

Actually alot of jewelry manufactured to appeal to teenagers is now made out of stainless steel. I believe a small quantity of silver is required to make stainless, but I haven't seen anything in the line of copper, at least anything that was labeled as copper. Jewelry (like everything else) is getting made out of cheaper material. Artificial stones, cheap metal, ect. So the question becomes, when precious metals are too expensive to use to make anything, are they really worth anything??? I mean, imagine what gold would cost if it cured cancer or powered hybrid cars. At least with copper you can industrialize, and infrastructure is something that will only increase with the population. I think copper is a no-brainer, of course I'm just squirrelling away pre-82 cents I come across for grandchildren down the line, I don't really expect much performance in the next 30 years that I could use. Copper doesn't have much market for short term imo.

I haven't done any research to confirm, but today a friend told me that he expects copper prices to increase as a result of the earthquake in Chile. He told me that Chile is a large exporter of copper and with the damage to their infrastructure, there will be a demand for US suppliers to fill.

Again, I have done no research on this topic, just repeating what someone told me.
