Quarter Notes Giveaway #19 (counterstamped quarters + bonus prize)

    Contest status: CLOSED
    Drawing: 3 March 2025
    Winner: @SensibleSal66
    Shipped: 7 March 2025
    Winner's receipt: 11 March 2025

    ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

This contest will be decided by a random drawing sometime on or around March 1, 2025, or shortly thereafter, depending on my schedule. Should I be absent, you may consider the contest active until such time as I return and finalize it with the drawing.

The mysterious “Quarter Master” from Quarter Notes, Ltd. is back for 2025!

In early February he sent me an anonymous package containing some of his handiwork, plus some other goodies to be used for giveaway prizes.

His true identity remains unknown to me to this day. If you are unfamiliar with The Quarter Master, essentially he's this mystery man who counterstamps short, mysterious phrases (amounting to riddles and/or puns) on Statehood quarters, and releases them into circulation. Often the phrase has something to do with the state or design featured on the host coin. Many people like to puzzle over the meaning of the counterstamped phrases.

Sometimes he sends counterstamped quarters to people in the mail- completely by surprise. If you ever happen to receive one of his mailings, open it! In addition to the counterstamped quarters, he has occasionally been known to include $50 or $100 bills in his mailings as well! The Quarter Master is a very eccentric character, but he is definitely a generous soul.

In the partial manuscript he released in February of 2025, The Quarter Master mentioned that his great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather had counterstamped large cents in the mid-1800s. So apparently he resurrected a very old family tradition when he started doing this in December of 2008.

Anyway, on to the current giveaway.

The Quarter Master encourages you to enter this contest by naming someone else to receive the prize. But if you really want it for yourself, it's fine to enter on your own behalf.

To enter, simply name the person you would like to receive the prize.

The prize this time will be ten different Quarter Notes counterstamped quarters, plus a bonus coin (see below).

You will receive the exact coins and counterstamps seen in the photo below.

And now, the bonus prize, which is not counterstamped. It is a 2020-W Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller quarter, from the West Point Mint, with the special "V75" privy mark which the mint added to some coins to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of World War 2. The Quarter Master found this in circulation himself. Lucky fella.

I would like to nominate @Cheech9712 for this giveaway.

Reason being, for the longest time I wanted, and checked massive amounts of quarters for the ever elusive W privy mark. Now here's the kicker, I live about 25 miles from West Point. Never have I found one.

Cheech was so generous, she sent me at least three or four of them. No strings attached, out of the goodness of her heart. I hope this entry for her wins so I can quasi pay her back for her philanthropy.

    Good luck to all.

    Thanks Rob and QM.

I would like to nominate @Pickin and Grinin for this drawing. He seems like a fantastic person and may or may not have any of these specimens in his collection. Either way, I feel good inside with him as my nominated recipient. Good luck!

    I'm in a pickle.

Sure, I'd I've love to "pay it forward", but not when I need the coins for own collection. ;)

So, I'll nominate myself for the contest. If any turn out to be duplicates for me then I'll share the wealth.

    Thanks for the contest!
