LordM Giveaway #91 (Mystery Box Pick #3)

    Contest status: CLOSED
    Winner (@potty dollar 1878)
    Shipped 10 April 2023
    Winner's notice of receipt

    ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

The prize for this contest will be a mystery at first. I will pull one coin from one of my random boxes of unsorted World coins. So there's your first hint. It will be a non-US World coin. A pretty inexpensive coin, but it will be older, or interesting somehow, or silver (or maybe all three).

To enter: Be the first to guess the coin's identity (country, denomination, date), and it's yours- if you want it. I might drop some hints along the way if I feel they're necessary. We'll keep guessing until someone gets it right.

You may keep on guessing multiple times, but you must let at least two other people guess in between each of your guesses (in other words, you'll get a new guess every third post, if that makes sense). Since this will require feedback from me as the guessing progresses, please be patient with me when I'm not online. I'll try to keep the guesses moving in the right direction. If this new contest format works, there will likely be more like this (I have a lot of World coins in those boxes).

Totally free: the contest is free of charge, open to everyone, with free worldwide shipping. The only thing I ask is that you do please post to this thread later, when you have received the prize, so that we'll know you got it (that helps me keep track).

    Good luck!

    Numismatic regards,

    ~Robertson ("Rob") Shinnick ("LordM")

Starter hint: this coin was struck by what was a new nation at the time.

Not brand new- the issuing authority for the coin was just a few years old when the coin was struck. And technically I don't think it was even quite a fully independent nation yet.

Let's just say it was the first year they made their own coins.

I'll take that for being partially close enough!!,if I do win I plan on giving it to one of the young active YN members.

So it's a 20th century coin from a nation with at least a partial border on the North Atlantic, which was a young, emerging nation at the time the coin was struck. The year the coin was struck was their first year for independent coinage (at least in modern times).

Anybody else wanna take a shot? Once the nation is identified, the rest will probably fall into place pretty quickly.

All you have so far is the country and denomination. The date may take a while yet for someone to guess.

Edit- sorry, no, I'm in the wrong contest. Never mind.

I was thinking of the other one, which we have narrowed down to being a Mexican 8-reales, but not the date.

    This
one has a few more mysteries.

I probably shouldn't be running three similar guessing game contests at the same time, huh? Gets confusing.

True, its always a dating game:D:DThere's only so many numbers in a century and to me I think it's at least pre WW2.

You need country, date, denomination. Despite my erroneous last post, none of that information has yet been resolved on this contest. But we know that it's a 20th century coin from a North Atlantic nation.
