[CLOSED] LordM & Friends Coin Giveaway, May, 2019

Just read along, and see how it flows. I welcome donor partners in these giveaways but do not solicit that. Anyone can run their own contest, after all.

But if you'd like to be a donor partner in mine, all I need from you are some decent pictures and a description of the item(s) before the end of the month, for next month's giveaway.

You wouldn't even ship the prizes to me. I'd have you hold onto the stuff until the end of the month and then send it directly to the winner of the drawing.

By the way, everyone, I can now confirm that there will be old gold next month.

(Not big gold. I'm not a rich man. But something fun.)

 

Neat old encased cent. @Paddy54 sent me this one recently, when I bought a coin from him.

 

That's junkbox-diving at its best. How can you possibly beat that? A readable 300-year-old coin for 20 cents? Awesome.

I'd have guessed Liège on that, simply because it resembles some 18th century coppers from Liège that I once acquired on the cheap (but not that cheap!)

 

Prize #2 arrived yesterday from Hungary. As a bonus, the seller included a vintage postcard from Budapest, which was a classy gesture. They will get glowing feedback from me.

The postcard might be nearly a century old in its own right- I can't read the date on the postmark. Anyone know Hungarian stamps? @Jaelus?

(Edit- nope- it's closer to 50 years old, since that's a 1963 stamp. Thanks, @Jaelus.)

The coin is quite decent for the type and in pretty nice grade, allowing for the somewhat primitive minting process of its time. I'd call it VF+ at least, and perhaps XF. These are often quite crude but this is a nice example. I put it in a new flip and printed up a professional-style information insert for it.

Whoever wins this coin in the drawing will also get the old postcard.

(* I also just purchased not one, but two gold coins for the June giveaway. Yes, you heard that right. So stay tuned for that one when the time comes...)

 

Thank you! So nowhere near as old as I'd thought, then. That kind of looked like a WW1 era postcard to me.

But it's a fifty year-old postcard, anyway.

PS- I wasn't looking closely enough at the stamp. The passenger bus shown on it would've been an obvious clue to its vintage, had I been paying attention, or wearing my glasses. Looked like a building to me. LOL

 

Well, yeah, I guess WW1 stamps don't have 1950s-era buses on them. Things can get amusing at times when I ain't wearin' my specs.
