Hi Everyone, I got an email from Gainesville Coins (see link below). The design looks interesting so I'm going to order one!! http://www.gainesvillecoins.com/pro...orea-1-oz-silver-1-clay-chiwoo-cheonwang.aspx
It's a nice looking coin or at least the side they're showing is. I might even order a few if South Africa doesn't get the lead out with the fat guy and leopard chow coin.
They had 2300+ in stock, spot took a dip and when I went to order some of these *POOF* the presale had sold out or they took down the listing. At least I got some 2016s LOL
I figured it would be a popular coin so I didn't wait. I just ordered lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I just received the coin on Saturday. Really nice looking coin. I ended up getting the 2016 coin on Ebay as well. Very nice looking coins. Glad I got them!!
Bullion Exchanges has them, but the price is higher: https://bullionexchanges.com/2017-1-oz-south-korea-silver-chiwoo-medal-bu MCM also has them and their price is even higher than Bullion Exchanges: https://www.moderncoinmart.com/2017-south-korea-chiwoo-cheonwang-1-oz-silver-medal-ii-gem-bu.html
Has the 2016 version been relatively more expensive since release, or has that price gone up by that much? And, I'm waiting for a turtle ship version, if they ever come out with one
The 2016 went up greatly. I believe the major sellers had them for under $30 (maybe around $22-$27) at first. They sold out and have taken off in the aftermarket.
They are nice looking coins. I think the average price is around $30 now. Maybe a little less if you look around.
Is there a schedule out for future designs and their timeline? I checked the KOMSCO site and there's nothing about these 1 Clay medals/coins. Maybe a news report somewhere? All I see is a Reddit post that the "1 Clay" denomination designation may be removed due to pressure from the Korean Bank and other Korean authorities. So, it'll just be more of an art medal than a denominated issue. If a change does occur, then the 2017 and especially the 2016 first issue should be relatively more expensive than the rest of the series! That said, I bet the 2018 designs are at or near their finalized form.
I wonder why there would be pressure to remove them. The designs seem to be popular. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Is a "clay" an actual denomination for ROK money? I thought it was a fantasy denomination from KOMCO.
Maybe that's why they want it removed. If it has historical basis, I can see why they used it. I thought it was similar to the Isle of Man's "Angel" designation. That may be official though, whereas the Clay may be more fantasy as you say.
