Lastly, you sure do sound like Detecto, even if you say you aren't.
I agree and disagree with NK at the same time. Yes, its a hedge, but also can be thought of as a form of storable oil. Insofar as people invest, (speculate), in commodities, I view PM as similar.
This is meant to be a fun topic, I know a lot of people who feel differently about both, and I also realize that this topic is not a real which is better situation, this is meant to start a debate about the both.
I'm really surprised by how difficult people are on this forum about just having a fun discussion.
As Medora said, PMs can be viewed as units of oil, but, even then, you're speculating on arbitrage, at best. It's not an investment.
Ok, so let me ask this, you say backed by bullion, if your buying physical bullion and storing it for a future rise in the market, isn't that similar to what people do with oil and other such commodities? Would that not make bullion a form of a investment, not just a hedge against inflation. I know some view it as only that, but some people are actually collecting bullion as a investment as well.
It may be that a lot of people just don't give investment opinions/advice for fun since there can be real life consequences for people who use that information. Just a guess.
Indeed... for the most part, the informed investors (whose advice would actually help) aren't going to participate for one of two reasons:
1) They don't want to work for free.
2) They don't want to get sued for misapplication of advice that they weren't compensated for.
That leaves you with non-professional opinions.
Well this a forum for discussion, no one is asking for a professional opinion, just a opinion. If people choose to follow someones opinion on a forum, then they are fools if the try to sue someone over a opinion on a site where no one is claiming to be getting paid for you to listen to them. Some people just want to be informed and learn a little, not everyone has a college education in finance and understands how this all works.
This is a forum for COIN discussion. The bullion section is intended for coined bullion metals (0.999+ gold or silver content medals/coins). If you want to discuss investments, take the discussion to "General Discussion."
I wasn't trying to make it "unfun". I thought my point about how "stocks" are not just one thing but tens of thousands of things cannot therefor be compared en mass to PM, which is by its nature just one thing, (per element at least). So, its the same as comparing peanut butter to all food.
If you wished to compare pm to say an S&P 500 index or something, then we could talk about it.
I thought I had a point.
Ok, so whats up with all the topics under the bullion section that have nothing to do with coin bullion metals? There are a lot of them on here. NK, you have to admit, this topic went way off topic. Like I said this was meant to be fun, and most people have a sense of humor, atleast I would hope so.
You actually did, I appreciate that you understood the topic and had a opinion on it, thanks for that. :dead-horse:
Start a S&P VS Topic LOL
Just because you see people ignore stop signs on the road, that doesn't mean a stop sign doesn't mean to stop at the line.
Don't get me started on peoples driving skills... Listen its obvious we disagree and maybe I chose the wrong battle for bullion to go up against, but I enjoy a good debate and like anything else, not everyone will ever agree,
I'm with you, shiney lol :hail:
