I used to know a fellow who bragged all the time about his Enron stock. Then one day he hushed up.

It's not you that I'm concerned for, or even the 100 or so victims whose money went into your pockets already. It's the one's who haven't yet dabbled in BitCoin, but are on the verge of doing so.

3.6 billion in bitcoin was just seized by the government, from a 2016 theft.
Just google 3.6billion bitcoin theft if you want to read it yourself.

Just goes to show you . . . not only can they track your funds through decentralized ledgers . . . they can seize them too.

They didnt seize it, its being returned to the people it was STOLEN from by a couple in NY. The woman was an idiot and was even posting tictoks bragging about it, but the funny part is they actually did the people a favor as their bitcoin is worth a TON more now than when it was stolen

Beggin' yer pardon, but the following comes from a DOJ press release . . .

“Today’s arrests, and the department’s largest financial seizure ever, show that cryptocurrency is not a safe haven for criminals,” said Deputy Attorney General Lisa O. Monaco. “In a futile effort to maintain digital anonymity, the defendants laundered stolen funds through a labyrinth of cryptocurrency transactions. Thanks to the meticulous work of law enforcement, the department once again showed how it can and will follow the money, no matter what form it takes.”
That the DOJ hopes to identify rightful owners and return their funds (less taxes owed, I'm quite sure), doesn't change the fact that they seized the BitCoins.

Yes it does. There's a big difference between returning something to its owners and siezing something to keep like the double eagles.

Also what happened to bitcoin being untraceable money laundering blah blah blah nonsense you guys had been saying for years and years?

It's been well known for years that they have the ability to take/stop stolen coins, theres no bombshell here other than great news for those they were stolen from

    No, there's not!

The 1933 Double Eagles were also seized and turned over to their rightful owner, previously decided by the courts to be the United States Mint.

I'm sure you can find where I claimed BitCoin was being used to launder money, but I challenge you to find where I claimed that it was untraceable.

If there's a bombshell here, it is blowing up the unjustified perspective of those conducting illicit activities who thought BitCoin was a safe haven for them transacting with anonymity. Find a loose end, and one can unravel that fabric.

No they werent they were stolen by the government by thats a different story.

The simple fact of saying something is used to launder money implies you think its untraceable. Laundering money involves methods that cannot be traced

This thread is proving that you can't have a reasonable conversation with someone who treats bitcoin as if it was a religion.
