I have absolutely no disagreement with your candidacy vs. metals analysis at all. I think it's spot on. The only thing I'm saying is the news stories I was hearing YESTERDAY were not in favor of the candidacy that would be expected to have metals rising. That's all.

FWIW, I _think_ I've decided which way I'm going, and I'd estimate it's a 99%+ chance we're voting the same way at the top of ticket - not that it'll help much in either state. Chalk it up to "same vote, vastly different reasons."

Some sources I trust tell me there's one more massive wikileaks revelation coming. Wishful thinking? Yeah, maybe, on his part. But he (my source, and think about the type I work around) seems certain.

Brett, I think you and I agree on far more than you'd want to believe. Thing is though, we REALLY REALLY vehemently disagree about PM's.

So I take it that you're saying that for someone to come out ahead of equities by "investing" (as if) in silver, they must choose a highly selective start and exit point? Yeah.

Since 2000, silver has outpaced the equities market. It will probably settle lower eventually but Tuesday's result may be an opportunity.

You may not realize it Kurt but I am not on this forum 24 hours a day. And if someone asks me a question whether by a post or a PM if I'm not on the forum at the time they probably won't get an answer until I am again.

So that explains me, but what about Jim ? Well I'd think the answer is obvious for one reason anyway - because you have made it personal, not business. But there is another answer that you are not aware of - moderators have instructions that discussions regarding, I don't know what else to call it so moderator business will have to suffice, are only to take place privately, in PMs in other words, not on the open forum.

That said, there are some times when exceptions are necessary but they are few and far between. This is not one of them. But I do have a couple of PMs from you so I will answer your questions there, just like I said I would.

Back in the day when St Gaudens were $440+ and gold was $3-400+ I always contemplated buying Gold 1oz St Gaudens. The Numismatic valuation always had me thinking twice about it.

Now I'm in the same conundrum today.

2005 High Relief - Love the coin $2000 which is spot + a numismatic value
or get a nice St Gaudens, MSsomething which is spot + a numismatic value for much less.
or a low grade 51ish St Gaudens which is closer to spot.
or get up to 14x 1/10th or combo with 1oz AGEs vs the 2005.

I love the 2005, and also the St Gaudens and always struggle with pure bullion type coins vs more numismatic type coins. But when I buy a coin based on PM numismatic like my recent 1934 Texas Centennial I don't have much to stop me, unlike gold based coins. Maybe because silver based coins are so much cheaper.

After all these years I have yet to buy a St Gaudens. And spot gold is now much higher.

Not quite. What I meant was that at some forum sites, such as a German one and a, hmm, small-but-global one where I participate, it is possible to simply talk about euro coins. With most American sites I know, such topics (if they get any reaction at all) sometimes? often? incite comments about how terrible the common currency is. While I am not sure about its future (going into details would violate our rules, but you know my opinion), such posts I will usually not edit unless a topic takes a really political turn.

As for comments about US politics here, admittedly I am a little lazy when it comes to "sanctions". When I come across an election related post that I find problematic, I ask the others about their views, basically because it is their election too, not mine. Hope you consider this to be closer to diplomacy than to cowardice. ;)

Side note: The moderators are listed here https://www.cointalk.com/members/?type=staff but not every mod does the same, and same amount of, work here. Jim for example is more active as a moderator than I am, so yes, it is more likely that you (as in y'all) get one of your posts edited by him ...

Okay, in fairness to those who had to endure that testy exchange between me and the mods, all is cool now. I got then answer I needed, and while I do disagree with the judgment call on this "infraction", I also feel I've gotten away with far more "coulda been" infractions that weren't called than I've ever gotten flagged for.

Bottom line: I'm having extreme trouble discerning what counts as political here. I get away with posts I probably shouldn't have, and I get flagged for stuff I'm convinced is purely benign. Communication is the key. Share the thought process, that's all.

And it was all about a post I didn't even care much about, too.

I don't agree, but I do partially understand on this call. Over and out.

Yeah well I guess that's to be expected. You find it hard to believe that gold tones too - but it does :D

Nah, I believe that gold tones, just not that you have any need for sleep :)

    LOL !

Well, to be honest I don't, but my heart does. It has a hard enough time staying beating as it is, so yeah, IT needs the sleep :D

Umm, Doug? If your heart actually does sleep, you have more problems than just a few.

Regarding toning, nothing is truly chemically inert that's not a noble gas. Not even Au. Close, but no cigar. Certain carbon forms come pretty close too. "Buckeyball" carbon is freaky stuff. We're all gonna be indistinguishable stuff when the sun consumes our orbit.

How's THAT for long term investment advice?

Them either. In fact, there's apparently a known compound that actually has a bond between xenon and gold! Now, there's a form of corrosion that I wouldn't mind having an example of in my collection.

Neon's the last holdout. I don't think solid neon is especially malleable, though; it would make a lousy planchet.
