I've got a bad feeling. These "In stock" coins took way too long to ship out. Maybe by buying the last sets offered, we're going to get the picked over/bottom rung/left over/nobody else wanted coins :(

I'm a little hard some times when I grade coins. I would rather error on the down side than ever over grade a coin, and I do mean EVER. Perhaps others would call AMPEX's set a MS66 or 66+. That being the case however, it would just raise the MTB set proportionately higher.

Just got an email from AMPEX today that says that my set has been shipped. I should have it on Weds. of next week, yahoo. Boy Dillon Gage sure is slow.

Sure they could. They've already put out an offer to buy sets from from the public at a premium. Shoot, they offered me $310 profit NOT to ship me my set a few weeks ago (maybe I should have taken them up on it, but I wanted these so badly). Couldn't they just ship us the worst of those? I mean, who's going to sell a really good set to Apmex when they could just retail them on eBay?

Salty, always better under than over. Originally I had planned to leave mine sealed in the box, but now I'll have to open these big boys up and take a look

But I'm really thinking old Ampex couldn't resist cherry picking our pucks.

Well, if our sets are lacking something on the quality side, we can always hope the low-mintage, first-of-a-series aspects will add a little something. I'm actually more anxious to see them now than I was before. For what they are, though, a 66 grade doesn't sound all that off-putting. Worst case, break-even relative to melt value is $40.00.

Has anyone received a Prudential set? How have those coins compared to the others? I just received notification that my Prudential account had been approved, despite all those hoops...

    APMEX shipped out yesterday! Woot!

Two days ago Prudential told me it would be a few weeks before the depository would contact me to deal with shipping.

They also said that the coins were not in Air-Tites so if you need them you might want to order them. I bought mine from Wizard. I think the price was $1.43 when you buy ten or more. Wizard is offering $10 flat rate shipping and I wanted some other stuff so it worked out OK.

Finding a way to fit these into a safe deposit box is a hassle. My idea is to get a 10" double wide 2x2 box, cut out the middle divider and fit three of the Air-Tite sets in it.

Mine from APMEX have been "Checked into B Vault" for quite awhile now. Not sure what the hold up is.
I don't think I'm even going to open the box. Probably sell them on e-bay. Might wait for silver to go back up a little.

sorry about this but had to say something
i did get my set of the 2010 atb coins
but all of you are only talking about the cost of the silver and not the fact that the coins will never be made again ever
to me that means the cost of them has to go up with time and as other sets come out
and thats not even thinking that so few of the first sets where made
even if i hold on to my set just for 10 yrs what will the cost of them be by then (not thinking of the cost of silver ) but as just the first set of coins made

That is a good question. The only thing that comes to mind right away that we might be able to use as a comparison would be the 1999 State quarter proof sets? Can you guys think of anything else that came out about 10 years ago that was a low mintage?

the only thing i can think of or comes to mind is the first yr silver eagles
much like the ATB not to be used but only for colltions look at the cost of getting a first yr and what did it cost to buy it when it came out
after all they are the biggest coin we ever made and may not make any more that big after and when they are done how hard will it be to get them
but to be fair you also have to look at what just a silver bar cost yrs ago and what it cost today (with that you can only go by spot) but with coins you have to take in many other things
i got mine off of e-bay for 1200 but now i see the same set is going for about 1500 not bad for only a few months time

Here's what Apmex sent me today:

    Hot Springs FS MS68
    Yosemite FS MS68PL
    Grand Canyon FS MS68PL
    Mount Hood FS BU
    Yellowstone FS BU

I will say this for them, this is the single best packaging job I have ever seen.

Holy Cow that is awesome. You could ship a baby like that. Just kidding guys I would never ship a baby, but I'm just saying I've never seen anything shipped like that before.

On a side note I just got confirmation from Dillon Gage that my set there has been shipped. By the end of the week I should have all of my sets in my house.

What was that street address again? (Paging Tater to the "tell the world where you keep your valuable, portable and non-personally-identifiable collectables" thread...)

I just got notice on my ATB 5 oz coins I sent into pcgs for grading. Not sure if these are any good grades.

3 were graded SP 68 First Strike
2 were graded SP 69 First Strike

They don't show SP listed on their pricing page. Could someone tell if these are good grades?

The 68's are common. The 69's are very good, even better if they are PL or DMPL.

Got my Dillion Gage set today and was not really impressed... The box the set came in was smaller then the US Mints packaging for the single 5 oz uncirculated coin. Cracked it open and inside of that box was a smaller box containing the set in flimsy plastic sleeves that I wouldn't put a 4 leaf clover in yet alone a 5 oz silver coin. One of the sleeves had actually ripped open and let the coin slide out the side.
So I got my Hot Springs UNC coin as well and of course mine has a huge line going through the "Springs"... Just not my day i guess.

Yes, the Dillon Gage sleeves were beyond lame. If you stare at them they will rip before your eyes.

However, the first set of coins from Jack Hunt were by far the worst. While other posters have attempted to explain the marks on the coins drawing from their extensive knowledge of numismatics perhaps there is a simpler, yet completely plausible explanation:

Suppose that the employees responsible for the handling of the coins had access to an employee break room. Suppose further they were allowed to use an air hockey table to pass time at lunch and on breaks. Finally, what would be the result if someone lost the plastic air hockey puck and used ATB coins as a substitute? Seeing that the coins were too heavy for this use they could have been relegated to secondary duty as drink coasters or table leg shims. Then they sent those puppies to me.

So a question that I have if I want to sell it on ebay is there any invoice or packing slip on the inside that has personal information on it?
