To place an order with Dillon Gage do you need to send the bank wire before receiving an order confirmation? I emailed in my order form on Friday and haven't heard anything back yet...

I really don't think they have anyone just sitting there to read e-mails. Especially over a holiday weekend. They were closed from thursday until monday.

Yes, you send the order by fax/email and the wire transfer. They match the two together and send you an order confirmation.

So would that mean sending the wire ASAP, or waiting a few days to hear back from them if the order was accepted? I don't want to wire nearly $1k only to find out a few weeks later that my order wasn't accepted and have to wait and/or fight to get my money back.

Sounds like something from one of those TV coin shows. :just-sign:

Actually, I don't mind paying a little extra to avoid the crazy stuff. APMEX doesn't require a SSN or wire transfers...just the standard secure Credit Card checkout.

I pay more ($1008.70 with S&H included), but the coins are also NGC graded! All in all, it seems like the better way to go. I just hope "Vault B" isn't a locker at the Bus station.

Dillon Gage is sold out. They offered the cherry picked graded sets for $1159. A few days later they probably found duplicate orders from the original raw sets, and they then reintroduced the raws for $937. Nice to get another set at that low price. Both are gone!

If you really want to stand a chance at obtaining these, I would strongly urge you to contact them first thing Monday Morning. The 155 sets they had, may already be accounted for. If so, If I were you I would not be overly distraught . Since I have a strong negative opinion of this issue right from the beginning, I'm not buying even if I could . But thats just my own thinking. Good luck to you .

I just got a Jack Hunt set and opened it up to find 5 slabbed coins all with the same label - "Gem Uncirculated Early Releases". I don't know much about slabbing. What does this mean? Does it carry a premium over a set of loose ones? Also, a couple of these look absolutely flawless. Is there any way to tell the difference between a 68 and 69 with the naked eye or would I have to scan them with a loupe? Thanks for any help you can offer - as you can tell, I know nothing about slabbing.

Not any premium. JH had alot of coins graded, I think you got those that didn't reach his minimum grade of 68. Even if they were slabbed 68, they still bring about the same price as an unopened box.

I wonder how much a coin dealer would give me if I sell a set to them. Would that be below, on, or above the spot price?

If you take it to a random B&M, they will probably offer you around spot. Your best bet is a coin show. I took an unslabbed set that wasn't great - no holders, one had a scratch - and I'd say 75% of the dealers didn't want them even before looking at them. ****, about 10% didn't even know what I was talking about! I got decent offers from a big dealer who I knew and one dealer who had about 25-30 sets at his table. At that time (two weeks ago), the best offer I got was $1165. I took it home, put it on Ebay and got $1400, which was about $1290 after fees. I think Ebay is your best route for these things right now. I tried on Craigslist and got nothing.

    Hope that helps!

I'm hoping no news is good news. I sent in the ATB order/application to Prudential two weeks ago and so far nada from them. Check is not cashed yet and no confirmation. Their site says 5-6 weeks after receiving documentation.

Has any received anything from them yet?

i sent a check to them last wed and emailed them on saturday to see if they are still accepting orders. i got the response yesterday that they are still accepting so im thinking that my check sent out on WED is GTG, ive also read that they are in no hurry filling orders so the 5-6 weeks might be right on.

Is this the same set that APMEX is offering to buy for $1250? Here is the link to the thread. http://www.cointalk.com/t171226/
