"Demand"? It's free and it's their choice of what to send you.
I would be happy with such luck winning such a coin. I think it's a major bonus that they send US Gold Commemorative coin / bullion when it could have easily been a generic round. I think you did well. :eek:hya:

From the APMEX product link above provided by PeacePeople:

Gold US Mint Commemorative $5.00 Coins (Years of our Choice)

"Each coin contains .24187 oz of Pure Gold, Years of our choice (usually 1986 - 1994) in Proof or Uncirculated condition, most in capsules. May include Statue of Liberty, Constitution, 1988 Olympic, Congressional, Mt. Rushmore, Columbus, Bill of Rights, Jamestown, or others. You should use this stock photograph as an indicator of the quality of the coin(s) you will receive. When buying "Random Years", you can expect to receive dates of our choice."

From that description, it seems that you may expect to receive coins like these (US Mint links below) and others. One of the "others" as pictured on the APMEX site listing is the 1999 George Washington commem, which has a really cool eagle design on the reverse.

1986 Statue of Liberty Gold $5,

    1987 U.S. Constitution Bicentennial, Gold $5,

    1988 U.S. Olympic (Seoul), Gold $5

    1989 U.S. Congress Bicentennial, Gold $5 (Congressional),

1991 Mt. Rushmore Golden Anniversary, Gold $5,

1992 Christopher Columbus Quincentenary, Gold $5,

1993 Bill of Rights, Gold $5,

    2007 Jamestown 400th Anniversary Commemorative, Gold $5,

Nice win and congrats. You might want to edit your demand statement out of that post, very bad form, IMO.

I see the mintage numbers on these coins averages 500,000! way too many for collecting. I guess they were made for their bullion content only.

If they send you a proof example that could get more in an auction than an unc coin if you tried to flip it on eBay and use the money to reinvest in something else you like. It's free gold/money, can't complain about that! :high5:

    Hello Everyone!!!
Congrats Yankee.. - I know who you are :)

To clarify a few things.. there seems to be allot of speculation on the award coins, and I dont want any one to get the wrong impression. On the contest home page (https://www.apmex.com/CoinContestHome/default.aspx) we have 5 coins listed. These coins are in order of appearance:
    1 oz Silver American Eagle
    1/10 oz Gold American Eagle
    1/10 oz Gold Austrian Philharmonic
1/10 oz Gold Canadian Maple Leaf
1 oz Silver APMEX Round - not an official coin, I know

There have been some posts here speculating about other awards, etc. I know that we will be giving away 1 coin per winner - Scott (the CEO here at APMEX selects the giveaway coins for the day). we will be mailing the first coins out to the winners this week - so be patient Yankee - yours is on the way soon.

Then you can take pictures of it, post it here, etc.

I just wanted everyone to know what was going on with this. Have fun and let me know if you have any additional questions, OK.
