Anyone excited about the prices gold coins are turnin' into nowadays? Never before have I seen such gold madness! That said, I can't really swing buying a gold coin but I did buy a gold ring that has an 1849 gold dollar coin in it! :D Goes perfectly into my 1849 collection I have, small collection. Yes 1849 is special to me as my City of Sacramento was founded in 1849, and it's also a gold rush year! thumbsup.gif Anyone else have a coin ring, don't have to be gold, feel free to post a pic. How bout you, anyone buying gold coins, pic??

I have purchased three of the four coins for the American Gold Eagle type set with the new “eagle head” reverse. A lot of dealers don’t carry them because the mark-ups are limited and risk from a drop in the gold spot price is great. I’ve found them on line, but the dealers mark they up $100 higher than the published wholesale prices.

It's probably a dumb buy, given the prices. I should have started this collection a year + ago. I need the quarter ounce gold piece.

As for 1849, I only have a set of gold dollars from the Philadelphia, New Orleans, Charlotte and Dahlonega mints. I don't have any other denominations. Here's one of them.

Gold coins, yes, at the right price. Gold bullion, no.

Years ago I put together the 5 piece type set of the four American gold eagles plust the American silver eagle for $650. That's 1.85 ounces of gold plus on ounce of silver for that price. It's no all bad, but I prefer numismatic gold.

Super nice 1849, first year issued, PQ to the max! thumbupp.gif I never realized the type 2 reverses were selling for more money than usual, that's something to know for sure! :)

    Yes, here's todays' purchase: https://www.ebay.com/itm/315830376369

Bought 1 certified Gold coin yesterday, and 4 certified Gold coins the day before.

It's believed Buyers are missing some good investments that can be found in a relatively volatile market.

hehe that $10 indian was a dream coin for me.. it was that or a double eagle, but not both... In the end the $10 indian is my favorite of the gold designs if not all US coins so it won :D

Thanks. It is graded MS-63. It was the “No L” variety which was among the first 10,000 pieces issued for circulation.

I probably will if I can find something shiny for a good price.
Lately I've only been seeing brass shells, copper widgets and aluminum pieces to get the components down the way some distance. :p
Some really good deals on those things so no gold additions as of late.
    Paper only stretches so far.

I really can't fathom your source for establishing a "good price", but your examples probably suggest a "junk yard".

I purchased 4 PF/PR70 certified Gold coins today without any negotiations
from internet sellers for less than spot + 12.5%.

You may be more secure leaving your "Paper" in checking!

The gold I've purchased this year consists of commemorative issues straight from the US Mint, which leaves me in dire straits of ever remaining above water........
